I don't know if this is old news on here or not but, i saw today paper where Richie Evans made the induction of class #3 in the nascar hall of fame. I am sure it makes all modified fans of the north and south proud of this. He was, and always will be the best there was. Someone recently asked me about what i thought was the best"greatest nascar finish". They were thinking my answer would be daytona or something. Mine was the last lap of martinsville with Richie and bodine wrecking. Coming to the final flag. Are we karnacions going to charlotte? God bless that orange 61. (i would post a pic, but i am doing this off my new phone ).

I was pleasantly surprised to see him get in. He certainly deserves it but I felt Nascar may unintentionally restrict the hall to the "Big Series". I'm glad they didn't. Probably orange is my favorite race car color of all time with the 61 of Richie Evans and the 12A of Jack Johnson. I believe both were sponsored by B.R. DeWitt. My photo site: http://www.rewingphotos.com

I certainly think Richie, Cale and D.W. should eventually be in the HOF, but there are others that had outstanding careers long before them that are being ignored. Florida's own Red Farmer, Marshall Teague, Ray Fox, Banjo Matthews and Fireball Roberts should already be inshrined. Herb Thomas, Smokey Yunick, Cotton Owens, Curtis Turner, Joe weatherly, Red Byron and owner Raymond Parks, Buck Baker, Tim Flock, Holman and Moody, Jack ingram and Ray Hendricks to mention a few. But most of the fans of these men are deceased and Nascar can't turn that into money, so they will continue to be shoved aside.Last edited by clincher47; 06-16-2011, 09:37 AM.

Winger... you are correct. Both Evans and Jumpin Jack were both sponsored by Gene Dewitt (son of B.R. Dewitt). I think the Johnson sponsorship started just prior to Richies death. He also sponsored Doug Hewitt, who is now in the Cup Series garages.
This election to the Hall was well deserved, although I also thought it would take many, many years for it to happen.
Even though Richie was generally known as the King of Modifieds (at least in the North... Ray Hendrick had that title down South), I wonder if Nascar will ever consider MY hero, Maynard Troyer. Richie had more overall wins, but when racing head-to-head, the battles between Richie and Maynard were split almost evenly. They were the 2 most professional, most feared competitors in the entire Northeast circuit. The difference was, Richie (along with Jerry Cook) decided to follow the Nascar points, where Maynard ran much more independantly.
As happy as I am that Richie made it in, I'm also disappointed that he probably will never be joined by the man that could whip Richie, just as often as he whipped Maynard. These 2 were pretty much equals throughout their careers (as well as partners in a bar, owning a pair of Hot-Rods they would tool around together during the week, building chassis for other competitors, etc....) and BOTH should be in every Hall of Fame that recognze the Modified division.
Maynard Troyer should ALSO be in, but never will because he didn't put all his eggs in NASCARS basket.
