I just got home from the Hot Rod Power Tour. There was about 1500 - 2000 cars that made the long haul and another 2000-3000 additional cars at every stop. There were no payouts but just a few small give aways.
My 1st tour, spent right around 3k and had a million dollars worth of fun. We started in Port Canaveral and finished in Detroit. Along the way we had stops at Cecil Ga, Montgomery Al, LP Field in Nashville, Indy, Muskegon Mi and Detroit. I did autocross in Nashville, a lap around Indy, meet Chip Foose in Detroit and open it up on the Gm proving grounds in Milford. Chip was awesome, he asked my wife to hold my 6 month old baby and took a few minutes to play with him. The people at the Gm proving grounds were some of the nicest people on the tour. Every night in the hotel parking lots was like a mini car show.
Locals would bring their cars out and wave at the passing hot rods in most of the small towns on the recommended route. Some would be a few hours from our destination.
Lots of traffic but when your looking at classic and customized cars the entire time its not too bad, unless your having problems. I was fortunate, a clutch adjustment, fluid and tire checks were the only things I had to do other than cleaning. I also had times where I averaged 23.1 MPG. I haven't done the final average yet but its estimated to be around 18 MPG. I ran 121 Mph at the proving grounds on the standing mile and never left 3rd gear. I could have hit 140 but I slowed down for a picture. I used a little more than 1/4 tank in a 10 minute joy ride at the proving grounds.
