      You ain't the only one.

Remember the guy who had the "Badger"-style midget out of Wisconsin who came down and ran with the USAC guys at the Speedrome (not IRP)? Mike *something*, can't recall the last name...

I remember when they ran at different tracks on different weeks; Ventura (CA), Winchester (IN), the Speedrome, IRP, etc....hated when they went to Saturday nights, because I was off racing with my dad at Sunshine and had to miss Thunder (pre-DVR days...LOL...).

I liked the winter they had Winter Heat. Thats the first most of us saw of Ron Hornaday, Rick Corelli and some others.

I raced at Sunshine from 79-81
Went there as a fan starting in 72
            When did you race there?

'79-'81 - I was nine- to eleven-years-old My dad was the crew chief on the Bob Kirk #12 Late Model (usually listed as the "12D" at the time). In that time frame, we had Jimmy Cope (his very first Late Model ride), Wayne Reutimann, Billy Gill, Shorty Stuart, and Jim Childers in the car.

Winter Heat was awesome. Late Models and the beginnings of NASCAR's Truck series (although not the FIRST Truck series...LOL). The Trucks shoulda stayed on the short tracks...I liked the format that they had.

                That's cool.It's a small world
I raced street stocks and figure 8 in the 24 car
I remember all those old school drivers,Jim Fenton,Dave Pletcher,Leroy Porter, there's so many to mention!!!
Those were the good ole days, wish things would get back like that now, stands always full even for practice, fans
always had their favorite drivers and alot of rivals between drivers
It's a shame they closed that track and Golden Gate and Tampa Fairgrounds
I also raced at Desoto Speedway

Been in Orlando since 82 and raced at SpeedWorld a few times
My daughter currently races at SpeedWorld in the Strictly Stock
division in car 24 and 4

The only negative to thunder was the Vogler wreck and the occasional rain that went along with the thunder. What I really miss is the racing news shows on ESPN and TNN. It wasn't all nascar and during speedweeks they covered all the local racing including the WKA kart racing. It was really honest news reporting for all types of race fan and not merely shilling for the big boys.

Motorweek Illustrated on TBS with Varsha and Despain was *great*; they covered *EVERYTHING*: Late Models, ASA, All-Pro, dirt Late Models, World of Outlaws, New Smyrna during Speedweeks, the Hangover Derby, the All-American 400, the Snowball, the World Crown 300, USAC Midgets, Sprints, and Silver Crown...just *everything*.

MOST of the "racing-news TV shows" nowadays all focus on the NA$CAR stuff; don't have cable here, so don't know if Speed still has that Sunday-might news show.

legend: don't worry 'bout it, dude But yeah, that's the guy and the car; that thing was nearly unbeatable for a long time.

Here's a video of some Thursday Night Thunder action from the Speedrome in Indy:
