Ever hear of Nano Track? Of course you haven't, I just made up the name. It refers to a new kind of novelty race that I'd love to see a speedway attempt. It takes virtually no preparation for either the track or the racers, and should be a funny addition to the show, or at least something to fill some time during intermission.
Do you even know what "nano" means? If not, ask a teenager, they probably do. It is a play on "nano tech", which is the miniturization of technology to an ever decreasing scale. Maybe the name is a way to connect to younger, tech savy fans....new fans that we desperately need in racing.
Here is what I have in mind...last Friday I was talking to my buddy Andy about the "Flagpole race" in the last Crash A Rama at Orlando, and how much fun I had in it. A flagpole race involves taking a lap around the track and diving into the infield to drive a little loop around a big tire. Andy suggested doing away with the lap on the track, and just having a few cars doing their laps around the tire! Imagine that: 4 or 5 cars doing 8 laps around a tire planted in the infield in front of the stands. I bet there would be a few drivers in full "drift mode", a few others with the tires full lock to the left and smoking, a few more spinning out in the 5'th lane, and who knows what else.
I think it would be a blast to try this with a junker class; I know I would do it with my Strictly Stock. Put up a $100, drop a big ole' tire in front of the stands and fill the small field with crazy drivers who want to put on a show. I've never seen anything like it and I bet it would be a riot!
