  • Hate fuel mileage races

Wish something could be done to end them but I cant think of anything, can any of you? Or am I the only one figures that way?

That was a very boring race, maybe the worst one I have ever seen, but at least I got a nap. Maybe if they broke the race into two 150 mile segments with a 30 minute break in between for repairs and setup changes it would add some excitement.

That might help. The races are just too darn long, i sleep too mch then wind up awake all night!

That has nothing to do with fuel mileage. It happens at every track.

I was thinking the same thing after the race. My suggestion...... if the pit window for gas is say, 50 laps, then have a competition caution with 40 laps to go, everone can pit for fuel at this time, this should allow enough fuel for the 'green, white, checker' restarts. Then they can RACE for the win instead seeing who can save the most fuel.

That probably is a good idea. I'd say, depending on the fuel "window", the stop should be as far from the end as possible. I believe on a competition yellow everyone is forced to stop, restarting in the same position? I know the argument can be made that if you can make the same or more hp than me and do it with less fuel, it can be said you shouldn't lose that advantage. But fuel mileage races stink. Sounds like the best Idea I've heard yet though.

The old debris on the track trick should work. They use it every time they think to many cars are getting lapped. Gotta love nascar for their dedication to making the "show" more interesting. As long as we have prescription tire, chassis and shocks ther will always be only one hot set-up and only one groove. Turn the mechanics and crew chiefs loose and quit protecting the manufacturers. We all know Smokey Yunick would never run out of fuel.

I don't like the idea of "competition cautions" anywhere near the end of a race... or even a half-way break. The reason is, far too many racers will stroke their way through those final laps before the yellow they know is coming. Rarely will you see racers go balls to the wall on, say, lap 95 when they know a yellow is coming out on 100.

I don't like gas mileage races either, but it has been part of the game ever since racing was invented. It IS ridiculous to see Sprint cars needing a red-flag stop in the middle of a 30 lap race to re-fuel.

PLus, most of the time that Nascar races come down to mileage, it's not a matter of fuel tank capacity, it's a matter of how much a team CHOOSES to put in on their last stop. They all want the bare minimum to save time and WEIGHT. If they gamble too close, then oooops... maybe need to add a little insurance next time...

If Sprint Cup ran 30 lap races, I doubt we would have fuel mileGE RACES. As far as "Debris" cautions because too many cars are getting lapped, I never thouht of that but I do know NASCAR has been known to throw "Debris" cautions in order for their "Boy" to get back on cycle, just as "Speeding" violations have been called on one driver out of a line of several. I do admit, I don't think NASCAR has chosen who their "Boy" is right now. Anyhow, lots of good ideas, I do not know the answer, just not a big fan of fuel mileage races.
