Was over at the Zephyrhills Autofest show, watching the old race cars on that lousy, Dusty dirt track.
Why can't they build a nice paved track, and race all year round?
    There is lots of room.

Paving the track may be possible, but I don't think you'll ever see weekly racing out there. It's a track strictly for demonstrations, not racing.

Sorry I missed this years show. I've really gotten into this whole Vintage Racing thing in the last year or two, and those people involved are tough to beat..... VERY nice group of people!

First. The heritage of the cars they are running is dirt.
Second. There was a guy a couple of years ago that tried to get track opened up there and was going to do some MAJOR improvements for the fair grounds and the old people across the road shot it down SO FAST it was amazing.
Third it is REALLY hard to trot horses on asphalt and that is what is also done on that track.
The drivers that run the old cars want it dry and get upset if the track is wet enough to get the cars dirty where they have to wash it.

Thats the only thing I hate when a track has the vintage cars show up.(LOCAL SHORT TRACK)I love to look at them, yet they get on the track and ride around wasting time that a actual race could be ongoing. If they're meant to be looked at then leave em in the parkin lot.

Evidently you have never seen Crush Revette (SP?) run. I have seen him lap the field get hooked with a car and go through the guard rail drive around and come back onto the track and wait for them to fix the guard rail and then proceed to lap the field again.

I went to a race with my vintage and watched the street stocks kill 1 hour trying to run 10 laps. We do it for the fun we have already had the glory.
