OSW packed????

There are a lot of things OSW needs to do to start filling in that big hole they've dug for themselves...
Putting cars & signs out along SR 50 is great but only a few folks pass by there in relation to the others you can reach with basic advertising...
They really need a full-time PAID Media/PR person that will work hard and not have to worry about someone looking over their shoulder all the time... A true pro at this can find ways of getting info out there without having to spend tons of money on Billboards & radio/TV ads... SIMPLE posters plastered everywhere (like Dick Joslin used to to with the old Orlando track) would be one way to get the ball rolling... not the posters like I've seen recently that are to "busy" and contain too much info... A person has to get the full message just by walking past: Such as - AUTO RACES, FRIDAY NITE, 8PM - ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD SR 50 AT HWY 520 - that's all you need plus a photo or art work of two cars crashing into each other... A poster like that builds immediate excitement...
There are a lot of negatives the track is up against... Orlando in general is not a very Sports-minded city...They have the worst Sports section in the country with the Orlando Sentinel... Many of the fans and drivers running OSW from the beginning in 1974 came from the East Coast of FL, primarily Brevard County after the Eau Gallie/Melbourne track shut down... The ecomony over there is so bad right now most can't afford to go to a race much less afford to actually race a car... It will only get much worse as the Shuttle program fades out....
OSW really needs to do something to get kids and younger fans interested... Running a succession of RWD "antique" cars won't do that (You can say the same thing for just about every race track)
OSW needs to come up with some ideas that will set the racing community on it's ear, get the publicity it needs and hire people who really want to work and strive to bring the place back up to where in was in the 70s and 80s... Not sure what that is but maybe figuring out what makes tracks like Bowman-Gray so successful would be a step in the right direction...

I would love to support OSW, there just isn't enough reason to. I've been to plenty of shows there, for nearly 30 years now. There have been good times & several rough times for this track. It goes in cycles.
Personally, I don't think it gets worked hard enough to become a success. And this isn't meant to critcize ANYONE in particular... it's just a broken machine, and no matter who is driving it, it's still broken.
They NEED a clean sheet of paper to start from. What worked in the past doesn't seem to be working anymore.
Switching to Dirt would create instant attention, will attract a whole new (different) group of racers & fans, and would bring out plenty of curious locals. Dirt is not the answer for everyone, but this place is about out of options for turning OSW into something exciting again. It would also capitalize on Ocala switching off of Fridays, and would pull cars from Volusia as well. Maybe even a few Hendry County travelers on occasion.
As I said, I WANT to have some reasons to start supporting them again... but being overcharged, for a sub-par product, is not how I'm going to "support" ANY business.

why dont yall quit complaining and suggesting ideas and just help. YOU GUYS are the ones that are pushing racing at orlando away, just support what you love to watch and do and everything else will fall into place. Real racers will support anywhere no matter what the situation is.
P.S. 35 lap legends race this week at Orlando, hope to see all of the real racers there.Man up and race.

osw has only has only averaged two(2) legend cars, and a 35-lap feature for, um.... well, two legend cars isn't going to be an attraction for any real race fan. and yes, i have supported it for almost 28 years, not as much lately, though.
last year i went to 1 program, the year before that 3 programs, the year before that 5 programs, and the year before that 7 programs, and in 2006 i went to 12 programs. those were good times back then.
