  • Some Fun With Numbers

I just looked at all the results from last weeks races and did some number crunching... I found results for all Florida tracks other than Ocala (which I know did not race) and Putnam (that I don't think raced)...
Here's how they fared from the top to bottom:

    EAST BAY RACEWAY:
    83 Cars - 5 Classes - Average: 16.6 per class
(This is skewed a bit because 33 of the cars were 4 Cyl Bombers)

    CITRUS COUNTY SPEEDWAY:
    96 Cars - 6 Classes - Average: 16.0 per class
(I did not count the DAARA cars since they are exhibition only, but they brought a stout field of 35 bringing the total count in the pits to 131)

    SOUTHERN RACEWAY:
    90 Cars - 6 Classes - Average: 15.0 per class

    NORTH FLORIDA SPEEDWAY:
    64 Cars - 5 Classes - Average: 12.8 per class

    VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK:
    69 Cars - 6 Classes - Average: 11.5 per class

    NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY:
    54 Cars - 5 Classes - Average: 10.8 per class
(Only 15 cars for a major LM race)

    PUNTA GORDA SPEEDWAY:
    69 Cars - 7 Classes - Average: 9.8 per class

    AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY:
    75 Cars - 8 Classes - Average: 9.3 per class
(23 of the cars were Legends)

    LAKE CITY SPEEDWAY:
    32 Cars - 5 Classes - Average: 6.4 per class

    ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD:
    40 Cars - 7 Classes - Average: 5.7 per class
(Of course 16 of the cars were Strictly Stocks, the other six classes averaged 4.0 cars per class)

    DESOTO SPEEDWAY:
    39 Cars - 8 Classes - Average: 4.8 per class

    TOP 10 BEST CAR COUNTS:
    1) 33 - 4 Cylinder Bombers/East Bay
    2) 26 - Pure Stocks/Citrus
    3) 24 - Modifieds/Southern Raceway
    4) 23 - Legend Cars/Auburndale
    5) 22 - Street Stocks/Southern Raceway
    6) 18 - Sprint Cars/Citrus
    7) 17 - Road Warriors/Punta Gorda
    17 - Thunder Stocks/Volusia
    9) 16 - Pure Stocks/North Florida
    10) 15 - Late Models/New Smyrna
    15 - Late Models/East Bay
    15 - Limited Late Models/East Bay

From what I can see, 68 different classes ran at 11 tracks... of those 68, 32 had few than 10 cars in them...
Only Citrus and North Florida had 10 or more cars in each class...

And... as you can see... I have way too much time on my hands today...

    shocker!!!!

I'd like to shock Mark and say something good about NSS. The SLM race, while not a great car count was a very good race. The Super Stock i believe had a good car count, I THINK the best of the evening, good car count.

Mike the bad part of Auburndales numbers are the Ledgens were about 33% of the total cars by your post. 50 cars or less at ANY track isn't good for the tracks out look. Because most tracks have 6 to 8 classes each weeks. Meaning less then 10 cars per class on average. And you much remember some of those class only have 2 or 3 cars or trucks in a race. And yet the owners keep running that class each weekend.

In its heyday Auburndale used to run V-8 Bombers, Mod Mini's , Street Stock, Late Models. 4 classes was all there was and they run every Saturday and the rules never changed. I know for a fact the Street Stock rules didnt change for over 10 years. All classes were full and the excitement level was incredible. To me that is the blue print to a successful track, small amount of classes and never changing the rules.

I Remember A Race There In The Late '90s... Watched 28 Mini Stocks Take The Green And The #0 Car Started Near The Back Of The Grid And Won... I For The Life Of Me Can't Remember His Name... Used To Be A Terror On The Fla Fairgrounds Dirt Track Too Driving A Honda Civic..

Didn't the Mini Stokes have to have an A and B main races at one time? And I remember when David moved to Aburndale in 95 there was like 25 or so cars in his Street Stock races.
