  • Attention sportsman drivers, 50 lap race at Citrus on 4/23 will be a cone race!

The 50 lap Sportsman race at Citrus on 4/23 will now be a cone race!

For those of you familiar with the Madhouse TV show from last year you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about! Basically every restart has the opportunity to be a double file restart, it’s up to the drivers. One lap before each restart the track will put a cone in the center of the track at the flag stand, when each driver reaches that cone, they must pick the inside or outside lane. If the first 3 spots all pick the bottom, then the 4th place car could choose the outside of the cone and start outside the front row for the restart. If the top 8 pick the bottom, 9th could pick the outside! The leader could even pick the top if he thought it was the faster way around! Once the driver picks the top or bottom, he must stay in that lane for the restart. You could have 15 cars lined up on the inside and only 5 on the outside!

I’ve attached a link from Bowman Gray Stadium to give you and idea of how it works. This will make the race change several times giving the fans and racers one of the best races of the night!

That will make for an interesting race. Never raced at Citrus before, but maybe I will have to take a ride over there.

Nice looking cars. I'm sure Aaron and David are looking forward to this race and Citrus getting back to racing.

Just a little update, after some great work by the track staff we have 27 cars saying they are definetly coming for the 50 lap sportsman race, with 6 maybes, and 5 calls not returned yet. I hate to put car counts out there, or even driver lists, because it always comes back to bite you in the but. I won't promise 27 cars, but I want everyone to know how big this race is shaping up to be

Not to mention we have the Open wheel modifieds, Street Stock, Pure Stock, Mini Stock, and the Southeast Champ Karts also! Last week Citrus had 120 individual cars and drivers in the pit area and 132 total entries for 7 divisions of racing. Once again, Citrus blew every other asphalt track out of the water on car count, It wasn't even close, I don't even have to do the math for you to figure out how that averages out.

So once again....if you want to see FULL fields of cars, a true two groove racetrack, and have some of the fan voted best race track food in the state.....you know where you should be going Saturday night!
