  • How many paid for the Speed51 video of The Race?

For some reason - this whole concept really intrigues me. I think it might be a way for tracks to maximize their big events - which seem to me be the things floating the tracks throughout the year anyhow.

How many on here paid the $20 to see the thing?

Why would you pay twice what you have to if you just go see it live and in person? I have never seen a good local track tape.

The coverage was ok at best but three $30 pit passes were not bought and we did not have to go to N.C. to watch. So i figured that 20 bucks was not that bad. We go to the pits anyway so we could actually see it better.
        The money comes and goes.

Not sure if I understood the question Rick, but for me, I was able to see for $20 something I wasn't able to go see in person. Coverage was decent, and even had replays. If it was closer, I would have been there for sure. I imagine around the country there was a pretty large number - say it was only 5000 people.. that is still 100k that Speed51 and the track would pay expenses with and split and probably didn't hurt the gate in the process.

Although on here, there's only two of us so far who did it, so maybe I am wrong. If they improve the coverage (more cameras - higher quality) - it would be awesome.

I wanted to buy it, but frankly, there were 2 things that caused me to pause: 1) I wasn't confident the quality would be good given some of the other race broadcasts I have purchased in the past, and 2) the cost of $20 seemed a little high given that I wasn't sure if it would stutter, or go down altogether, or how it would turn out.

As an example, I purchased the broadcast for the Dirt Late Model Races from East Bay this past February. The cost was tiered, so that a person could pay for the complete show each night, or a set number of minutes (e.g. one hour) over the course of the nights. I chose to purchase the minutes, because I didn't have the time to sit and watch all the heats and qualifying anyway. It was cheap. I can't remember exactly what I paid now, but I think it was $7.00, for 60 minutes of view time. (The clock stops/starts each time you logged on/off to watch the races). I was simultaneously watching the race reports on 4m.net, so I knew when the features were getting ready to take the green.

I did have a suggestion for future broadcasts like this, that I wonder if promoters have ever considered.

Instead of charging a flat $20 for everyone to watch The Race, why not tier it, based on the billing address for the credit card?

For example.... persons with a credit card billing address in NC would be charged $20 to watch "The Race" from N. Wilkesboro. Persons living in GA, SC, TN (surrounding states) might be charged $15. Persons living further away (Florida) might be charged $10, and ones really far away (e.g. Colorado, west coast, foreign countries), would only be charged $5.

This would encourage a lot more people to purchase the broadcast, but would help give promoters confidence that the broadcast isn't hurting live attendance at the event.

I was looking at say a 10.00 fee to get into the stands. Why pay twice that for a possible low quality tape of a race? Yes this one IS out of state but, for me I don't care about out of state races. And for sure I wouldn't pay for a tape of one. Even if my family was in it. I would just want to know the results of the race. But that's just how I am.

Mike I have thought about doing that on some of the bigger races that we have at PGS but its not hardly worth it because of the expense of the up link and you have to have someone to operate the uplink and I am for the most part a one man band.

Rick send me your address and I'll send you a good weely race show on DVD.
                Thanks Bob...

I did on Sunday, had to come back home after Saturdays rain. I thought it was very cool, outlaw street car drag racing has been doing this for several years although most are free, but it kicks ass for people like me that absolutely think crapcar is the bottom of the barrel instead of the top level.
