NSS Wed Night

Nice comeback for NSS. Good racing in most classes and feel good story in the mods with Jimmy Blewett winning his brothers race. Seemed like TC might have had a little more, but didnt push it too hard, although he did about beat the bumper off Jimmy's car. Griga came flying from the back and passed about 10 cars on the outside like they were standing still, but must have burned everything up getting there as he couldn't get passed 3rd. TC started the race with a bang as he banzai'ed it way low going into 1 and dumped Hossfield who was never a factor after that.

Super lates were pretty good, thay inverted 6 or 7 leaving David Rogers on the pole. He took off leaving Ricky Carmichael to fend off Jack Landis, Sieg and Jeff Choquette who was screaming through the pack. Choquette jumped into second and reeled Rogers in. Not much of a fight there, Rogers let him go on the outside. The interesting part came on the last lap when Louie Michaledes ran Rogers up the track in turn 1 and nearly wrecked him putting Rogers back to about 6th or so. In one of the few times I have seen Rogers lose it, he chased Louie after the checkers and followed him into the scale area. Rogers got out of his car and had a few heated words for him. Look for more there.

Gotta give a call out to Jeff Scofield in Eddie Gainey's #50... Jeff started at the back of the back and finished 6th or 7th... Great racing all night long in every division...

Also... gotta give a call out to 13y.o. Logan Ruffin for taking his third win of Worls Series competition in the #76 Crate... and Tank Tucker took his fourth win of the week and took the 2008 World Series Championship for the Florida Mods...

Gotta tip my hat to Chaplain Bill and his nightly performance of the American and Canadian national anthems. Its not racing, but it adds atmosphere. I also got a kick out of the antiques. Those guys were not just parading around. In fact, I thought they were going to hurt somebody.

Good racing in the SLM and tour Mod features.

Complaint of the night: 3 out of the 4 features I saw were won from the pole: LM, tour Mod and OWM.

I wish I could have stayed for the other races but work was waiting in the morning.

I hear ya Boneman, the Antiques (really just the 55 chevy) were out of control.

So from where you were sitting, did it look like TC let Blewett off the hook?

I wish they would invert all the features a minimum of 5 or 6.

Logan may be good in race conditions but he has no idea how to bring a pack to the green. but he's young, hopefully he learned something Wed night.

is there some kind of "2 strikes and we go to a single file start rule" in CRA? otherwise, they handed the race to Logan on a silver platter after he blew two consecutive starts from the pole.

Logan is also the one ( though this wasn't his 'fault' in any way ) who threw off the tail pipe section in turn 3. does NSS not have a track spotter down there? when that first came off it was laying a 1/2 lane up from the bottom groove and was subsequently hit at least three times.

forget about the hazard to the cars/drivers. if that would have gotten punted out over the fence ( and it did get smacked hard off the wall twice ) you could have been talking about serious injury to a spectator.

Grigas did by far the best job Wed night. started 11th but actually passed a lot more than 8 cars as his car just wasn't launching on the restarts. and i wouldn't say he 'flew' past them. he just did the work necessary to get passes done on the outside ( something we don't see near enough of ). on several occasions he was a couple of laps making a pass.

also, Christopher ran over him the first time Grigas caught him and screwed his front end toe up. that's why he wasn't pushing things at the end of the race.

i went down and shook Grigas's hand after the race.

Wed night was ( and will probably be ) the only night i was there. but i was informed by Masshole Bob that Christopher has been making a habit of this in the Winter Series.


SK's were an embarassment. on one of the yellows in the middle of the race somebody threw down so much water in 3/4 and up onto the front stretch that it was running down the bank. more than 4 restarts were made with the track in this condition and, other than the pace truck trying to lead the pack over the wet spot, nothing was ever done about it. this is what the tech official who walked up onto the front stretch at turn 4 was dabbing his foot into and what, several restarts later, the crash buggy was goofing around with between 3 and 4.

given that they were doing double file restarts, everybody in the outside lane was getting screwed, hard. and passing ( what little there had been anyways ) came to a stop as the high line in 3/4 was totally unusable til the last two or three laps of the race.
