  • Late Mode; Digest comments on NSS Speedweeks

Wow did they hit the nail on the head. Jim Carson the editor of Late Model Digest in his column commented on what was up and what was down from February and he stated and I quote " New Smyrna's staff communication. Nothing was bad here, but when you compare the time it took for the ACT Officials to get cars lined up for restarts with the time taken for the rest of the week's races, the Vermont visitors looked like real professionals. And to the NSS cleanup crew with their buggies: get out and manually push a broom to work in speedy dry once in a while" end quote.

How many times have we complained about this in the past, I have even gotten frustrated enough that I have left the track because of how long the race program has dragged on. In previous years their used to be a lot of hustle when a caution came out, not any more!!. Over the last few years I have noted the lack of hustle by ALL involved.

Remember when the World Series was the premiere short track event during Speedweeks? All I heard this year was about what happened or was happening at Volusia. This is such a shame, I remember when you received your National Speed Sport News (RIP) Speedweeks issue you would have the Late Model and Modified Champions listed on the front page with the same size header as the 500 Champion. NSS has got to raise it's bar and should be concerned about this. Is there a poor or what the hell attitude from those who direct and work the track crew. Do they realize what it looks like from those of us who sit in the stands? Is this going to continue during the season?

I asked the question below a coupla months back when I found out about it:

With NASCAR backing the Daytona 500 up one week in February (the fourth Sunday of the month vs the traditional third Sunday), will this also force the short tracks - not just New Smyrna, but all the tracks running during (what was once) SpeedWeeks, to move their schedules back one week as well?

Most of the people who sit in the area where I sit ALL FROM UP NORTH ON VACATION were questioning if they would come back next year because it was so POORLY run. These guys have been here every year for at least 5 years.
