My guess is that subscribers will be given "premium" access to the web site in return for the balance of their subscription, but frankly, i dont see it lasting long anyway, as pretty much all the employees, most of whom did not see this coming, are looking for jobs.

Area Auto Racing News is the only printed publication out there that comes close to filling the void. It just gets fatter and fatter. Hopefully with NSSN going down, Lenny Sammons will open up AARN's scope to include some more national news. If you liked NSSN, and you dont read AARN, you should.

NSSN is/was THE best racing paper ever published. I owe a LOT of the credit for my racing knowledge to that paper. It will be missed dearly.

And as for Chris Economacki, there is nobody on this planet that knows more about racings history than he does. From memory alone, he can recall a race at Monoco in 1958, what he ate for dinner that night, the entire dinner party guest list, and the dress that the host's wife was wearing. Not to mention that he has MET every racer of importance over the last 50-60 years. Probably the only guy in the world who could let himself into AJ Foyt's trailer, grab a Coke out of the cooler, sit in AJ's chair, and NOT get a punch in the mouth for having such nerve.

Also have to agree about Area Auto Racing News.... although it is pretty regional, it IS outstanding. Well worth reading...

Sad day! Best rag there was in the business. Thanks for the heads up as I was ready to write my check for new year.

Having written for NSSN for 36 years I am very sad to see it go, but in thinking back there were a few red flags I should have paid attention to. While its not the end of the world it presents a void that no other racing trade paper, not even AARN (which does a great job) can fill. While my column has not run on a regular basis in about six years it still was an enjoyable effort as were the result stories and an occasional feature story. Chris Economaki was very supportive of my efforts from day one in July 1975 and he taugh me a great deal about racing, writing and human nature.

And yes Don, Rex is very correct. Clean restrooms with toilet paper do make a difference. Ask your wives and see what you get for a reply. We'll put up with your lousy spelling but not your ideas on basic creature comforts at the speedway.

Jerry, you remind me of one of my favorite lines about Chris... maybe 10 years ago I saw Ron Lemasters, Jr., at a race and I asked how Chris was doing. He said, "Chris can tell you who placed third in the 1937 Mille Miglia, but he isn't sure what he had for breakfast this morning."

Sure, most everything that is in NSSN is out there somewhere on the web, but who knows what to look for until NSSN tells you what's important? And columnists like Argabright, London, Marty Little -- personally, I'd rather lose the NY Times and USA Today than Speed Sport News. Like when John Wayne died, and Paul Harvey went off the radio.. cant, and won't be replaced.
