You must be working for NASCRAP now the way you are promoting them. Remember they are the one's that have basically ruined short track/local racing, DVD or not! Also please get rid of the RED lettering (Hard on the eyes). I do like reading your posts because you are entertaining. Especially the spelling!

So you're saying all the former local short track drivers are sitting home watching NASCAR instead of racing? Because THAT is the problem, low car counts. For example its pretty pathetic when you win a trophy for 3rd in points and the average field PROBABLY was 5. Its a chicken before the egg deal. No fans no cars or is it no cars no fans? I still think MOST short track fans would rather go to the local short track instead of watching NASCAR on TV, I know i always used to. Especially when you can tape NASCAR, like Bobby said. Personally I appreciate his posts about NASCAR, and if the car counts get up this yr enough to make it worth going to watch I may go again, but am not going to watch 5-6 car fields. Whatever the reason. Its pretty easy to just say its this ones fault or that ones fault. I dont know the answer but I guarantee it isnt a few NASCAR races on tv. I will say I'm very impressed with Ponta Gordas program and price to get in, if weathers nice the place will be packed. Lots of other tracks arent even racing, nice weather, the population here is the highest it is all yr, and no racing.

I don't think it's so much the drivers sitting home as it is fans. True, in this digital age, they can DVR a race on TV, but a lot don't/won't; they'd rather watch it live on TV at home for free, than spend money to go out (to a movie, to their local short track, whatever).

I also know that some local tracks will close up for the weekend when a NASCAR Nationwide/Cup race is anywhere nearby. When I lived in Virginia, the local short tracks would close up for the weekend when Richmond runs on Saturday night. Instead of the tracks switching their regular program to another night (Thursday or Friday), it was just easier for them to close up. And this wasn't just one track; this was FOUR racetracks - Langley, Southampton (when it was open), Southside, and Virginia National. So if the local fans wanted to see a race that weekend, it was either stay home and watch on TV, or go to the race at the "big" track.

It happened/has happened there in Florida, too, when the Firecracker first started running on Saturday night in the late '90s, I know some of the tracks used to close up for that weekend. When NA$CAR first started putting their races on Saturday night (with the exception of probably Bristol), race fans had to make a choice: stay home and watch the Cup race(s) for free (well, cable's not really "free", but you know what I mean), or spend some $$$ and go out, whether it was to the local short track, to eat, to the movies, whatever. Now, how many Cup races are on a Saturday night? Both races at Richmond, Bristol, Chicago, Texas, Kentucky, the second Charlotte race, and the July race at Daytona. That's not including the specials like the Busch Cla...I mean, the Bud ShootOut and the All-Star weekend at Charlotte. That's a lot of weekends the short track fan has to make a decision to watch a Cup race (if he/she is so inclined) or go out and support the local joint. That's nine weekends out of the regular racing season. And...this doesn't include all the Saturday-night Nationwide and Truck races that're on TV as well.

So fans have a few choices to make. Me? Man, I tell ya, I'm missing the nearly-52-weeks-a-year racing season; we still got about another month before the season starts here. But I got about nine racetracks in a 2-hour radius that I'd like to *try* and get to this summer.

Oh - and for Bobby...gotta go with one of the regulars, either Bodine, Sauter, or Hornaday. But you can't count out Johanna Long. She's been lookin' pretty decent since she got to the Trucks.

I was saying if the problem at local short tracks is lack of car count, and I believe it is, for whatever reason, then to say Sat. night NASCAR is at fault is also to say the local short track drivers must be staying home watching NASCAR. When car counts were good at local short tracks in wouldnt stay home to watch 3 NASCAR races, but I will now instead of watching 5-6 car fields at the local short track. At least if I get bored at home I can go to bed. Some people say 2 cars make a race, thats great, I do not feel that way, want 15 - 20 cars in the field, or maybe even 10. The racing is the product the tracks are selling to the fans, the customer. No product, you close the doors, its a shame. i do not know the answer but I know this, the car counts MUST improve if short track racing is to live here or anyplace else. Remember, there are LOTS of Sat nights with NO NSACAR racing, whos fault is it then there are no car counts or fans? Let me spell it out: L-O-S-T I-N-T-E-R-E-S-T!

Now that I don't have the weekly anvil around my neck. And I was in the same boat of looking for anything to blame. Times have changed. I have been a NASCAR Fan for over forty years. Not alway as intence (check the spelling this one for you) as I found myself today. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH of it!!!!!...... Honestly I realy think the Powers to be at NASCAR have got it right. And if I do hit the Lotto and get real stuiped again. It would be a NASCAR Track without a dought. They are just starting to rebuild the Empire of the TOP Level of Stock Car Racen ( there's another one). Mark my words the NEW ERA is here NOW!!!!!!!....IS BLUE BETTER

Carol, thats called evolving with the times, Evolve with it or live in the past. Like Robert Hart said, racing has changed a lot in the last few yrs. It used to be fun, a bunch of buddies would get together in the back yard ar maybe an old shed with half the walls blown away and build a race car. When I was young everyone around where I lived had a 57 chevy, all beat to crap,4-5 guys workin at it, hauled it to BeachRidge speedway on a $200 trailer, held their breath all the way and put on one hell of a show. The place was packed, (and still is by the way). Now, locally, they roll in (all 4-5 of them) on a weekly basis in their $200,000 rigs, paid crew many thousands of dollars in their car and half the time the track lets the big money boys in for free. So today none of the average Joes' can afford to race. Also, when Ponta Gorda puts on one hell of a show like the one coming up, CHEAP entrance fee for the fans and someone gets all pissed off because a pic came from someplace they didnt think it should. I feel so strongly about the show coming up in Ponta Gorde I'm calling my brother-in-law over there to make sure he goes. Good luck Ponta Gorda and thanks for thinking about us, the fans!!

You had better look at the stands on TV. Poor crouds.$15 and $20 tickets. They arent dooing so good either.. They robbed the fans with ticket prices for a few years. Got big TV money and now it coming to an end and they need us back because TV wont pay the big money soon.
