DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - — For the second time in as many days, NASCAR officials summoned Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch to a meeting Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.
According to NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter, the drivers were ordered to steer clear of each other after Stewart reportedly struck Busch during a Friday meeting called after the two tangled on the track in practice for Saturday's Budweiser Shootout.
During practice, Stewart hit Busch from behind, sending him into the wall. Busch came around the track and rammed the right side of Stewart's car three times on pit road.
The Charlotte Observer reported Saturday that several sources said the Friday meeting "ended abruptly" when Stewart (5 feet 9, 190 pounds) allegedly struck Busch (5-11, 150).
Saturday, Hunter said the former Cup champions were told: "You two guys better give each other plenty of space."
Stewart, 36, was leading last year's Daytona 500 when Busch hit Stewart from behind, knocking him from the race.
Later in the season in Dover, Del., the drivers crashed into each other, sending both to the pits.
Busch, 29, swerved at Stewart's stopped car, nearly hitting one of Stewart's crew, who had to jump to avoid getting hit. Busch was fined $100,000 by NASCAR.
