Yes, the NASCAR TV rating are up 13% over last year 2nd race. This NEW ERA just keeps getting better each race. The Gordon's after 64 races come back, Kyle almost three in one weekend, to Jimmy coming from 28th to 3rd. Oh don't forget the BIG ONE that made the Crews work their tails off to get back in the race. This new points system is going to refuel the FAN base. Can't wait till this weekend. What hapens in Vegas maynot stay in Vegas. "Have at it BOYS" is another reason NASCAR is on the COME BACK!!!!! HARVICK's finish was good but wait this weekend. Go BUDMAN GO!!!!!!!

It is? I think it's the most ridiculous point system out of all the ones they've ever concocted. The Chase...still sucks. Out of the 51 cars that have started in the season's two races so far, only 41 of those cars have scored points. What they should have done, if they wanted to keep the Cup guys from winning the Nationwide championship, is to LIMIT the Cup drivers to only six starts, and make them declare where those starts would be. When Carl Edwards - who I *really* don't like - and sits 12th in the points - has earned nearly TWICE as much money as the current point leader...and THREE times as much as the 11th place driver, Paul Menard...

The "new" point system sucks (the old one wasn't that hard to figure out, except for "Brain" and Helton); the Chase *really* sucks (you only gotta be good in the last ten races); the new format for the Chase sucks (you could be 20th in points after 26 races, make the Chase, and win the Championship). The cars look better this year, but they're still ugly as all get-out; they still only have four short track races a year (bring back North Wilkesboro and at least two more *good* half-miles...); and the majority of the tracks don't have any passing, especially on those cookie-cutter mile-and-a-halfs that all look the same.

Ehhh...Trevor got lucky at Daytona, and it turned into a "exciting" race at the end.

Why is it again I'm supposed to get excited about NA$CAR this year?...Oh yeah. Tony's third in the points right now...

I would of sworn you have to be good all year to make the chase??? I do agree, they need more short tracks, and personally i like road racing. But lets face it, the igger tracks hold more people, mere people mean more $ ad more $ is what it is all about. Money earned is mostly a reflection of drivers sponsorship money. I mean, how do Earnhardts earnings compare to any other mid field driver?

Ok, good 26 weeks to make it, good remainder to win it! They are trying to make it interesting the entire season. When someone had a 300 point lead with 10 races left it was very boring. It was like a baseball team having a 15 game lead with 20 games left, musher the playoffs.

I actually think most of the points races, before the "chase" was implemented, were more entertaining than they are now. Sure, Matt Kenseth ran away with it one year but that was not the norm. Do you remember the Kulwicki, Allison, Elliott battle that went down to the last race? The points champion, at that time, was the driver/team that did the best for the whole season. Now it's artificial hype. Just think, if they still did it the old way, Gordon would have more championships and Johnson would have fewer.
Do you think it would be fair for a baseball team to have a 15 game lead with 20 games left and lose a chance to participate in the playoffs to a team that was 19 games behind? Yeah, it may be boring to some but they earned the right to be there. In Nascar, you can earn the championship but not get it. Is that the way it should be? Nascar thinks so. I personally think they should call it something else and still award the yearly championship to the years best performing team.
BTW, the new points system is simpler and maybe a little better but it still needs some tweaking, IMO.

Everyone has different opinions, likes and dislikes. I like the larger tracks. I hate the road courses. If the number of people a track holds was the criteria used for determining the venues, all the races would be held on road courses. Bristol, the shortest track on the schedule probably holds more people than most of the larger tracks. I don't have the figures handy.
The money earned for a driver per race is not in any way related to the points. There are several "programs" and "contingencies" that pay extra to the drivers. Don't ask what all they are. I know the most recent past winners get more of the purse. I know that all those stickers on the side of a car contribute to the money earned. At one time Pennzoil and Miller didn't allow all those stickers on the side of the car they sponsored. That meant that those drivers actually won less money than they would have.

Pennzoil and Miller paid the difference to the Teams.

Winger I read that in order to not run the contingencies sticker they paid the Teams and had to add into the points fund that the end of the year money came from. It was a big deal at the time. I sure Dave A. can find the exact information (he's the best in that department). But anyway I believe that NASCAR is on a upward swing. It is our Top of the Ladder Division of our Sport. And GOD knows you can't make everyone happy or make the Sport perfect. Heck that's why we have these boards to say our side. If you don't get NASCAR Illustrated, or have the NASCAR Radio you do miss a lot about the High Profile that the Sport has become (or Division of our Sport). It's not just TV anymore. There much much more to get into only if you have the time). That just my view and heck what do I know. Go "BUDMAN" GO........!!!!!!

Every one wanted to see them push each other around the big track and crash. I dont think the point system would come into it till much latter.

Winger, I said nothing about $ being related to points. I SAID $ earned goes back to sponsorships. You know not only the BIG sponsor but lots of those little stickers all over the car. Yes, and the 6th place team won. I happen to like road racing, should every race be a road race? of coarse not. But a better mix shows where the real talent is. If you don't think the big reason why they're racing more bigger tracks and less short tracks is $ (# of fans), explain why No. Wilksboro lost ALL of their races. Also how many races at short tracks have been lost in the last 10 yrs to bigger tracks? It's # of fans my friend. Its all about $.

It's related to the different programs and contingencies. The stickers on the car aren't sponsors of the teams. They are stickers for contingencies, to my understanding. If you have a certain sticker on the car, you are paid extra for having it. Very subtle difference but in essence you're correct.

As for the playoff scenario, it's not fair to compare Nascar to baseball or any other sport to determine the champion. In Nascar, the drivers compete against every other team every event. In other sports, there are different leagues and divisions, etc. and the teams don't play each other an equal amount of times. Their schedules can determine who has the best record, thus a playoff makes more sense. In Nascar, the "chase" was developed only for the hype, IMO. I don't think Nascar will even dispute that. I don't care if they have the chase. I'd just like to see the championship awarded to the team that really deserves the championship. Call the chase winner something else. JMO

Face it Jimmy, these clowns have been brain washed, kinda like what Walmart does to some people. I will never get excited about nascrap as long as it's the way it is now. What I am excited about is the PASS race at Wilkesboro, the season opener at Bowman Grey, the super mods coming to Ace, that's racing, not this crap they shove down our throats on Sunday. I really do wish Darrell and Jimmy would just get freakin married and get it over with! And what the hell has happened to Spencer?? Damn sellouts!!
