  • Volusia Night Four!

Yessiree Bob it was a good night to be me.

Lance DeWease put on an amazing charge through the B Main to steal the transfer spot on the last lap. Then Lance cuts through the A to finish fourth from the back of the pack. Lance was a man on a mission all night. Lance was one of the first to go to the bottom and start picking cars off.

Terry McCarl finally comes to life! T-Mac hit the setup and worked the bottom while everyone was working the extreme top side to finish third. One more caution and T-Mac might have had something for them.

Wrecks galore last night. Two red flags in the A Main. One of which of course was for Kraig Kinser. Mark my words, he won't be in that ride by the end of the year. I'd be shocked if he made it through the summer.

Bad Chad Layton was the leader of the PA Posse until that last restart. He put a wicked slide job on Joey Saldana and then it was game on with those two going at it. Saldana put a slide job on Layton that was ill-advised and they both paid the price. Layton ends up 6th, Saldana 7th. I was sitting with Layton's dad. He was not pleased.

Everyone's favorite - Natalie Sather. She might want to stick to 360s. That or she just likes real tacky tracks and everything else doesn't suit her. But I've yet to see her team really make big adjustments when she's not running well. Odd.

And your winner, "The Crowd Pleaser" Craig Dollansky. Why did he win? You guessed it, I once again saw Becca Anderson back their fiddling with his car.

All in all an awesome night. Expensive yes, but that was one of the best nights of sprint car racing I've seen at VSP. Slide jobs galore, the real drivers making the bottom work, Steve Kinser just bullying drivers, PA Posse once again hammering the Outlaws, you had it all.

Tripper I talked to the McCarl crew friday night. Tuesday when it started McCarl tried a different top wing. "Didn't like it." Wednesday they tried a different engine with a different cam. "Didn't like it." Thursday they tried a new set-up. "He didn't like it. Today we can't be doing that."

Then I talked to the Haud crew. They are trying to find out how each other works.

It wasn't a bad night. Schatz & Kinser kept trying to make the low line work. How about Tony Bruce jumping the cushion and going through the turn four enterance?

Was I imaging Johnny Gibson say, in the 7s from Bartlett, TN driving the Wetherington Tractor Services, Joe Gibbs Racing...Jason Sides.

The Bubba portion of the report: The Lasoski trailer was bundled up and the talent under the grandstands was a B. The pits was crawling with talent...In fact the model for the Smiley's Race Products usually on the back cover of Sprint & Midget Magazine was hanging all over Tim Kaeding.
