World Series Car Counts

Qualifying for the Tour Mods just ended - a whopping 11 cars???
What is going on this year? Speed 51 reports Burt Myers will start racing on Monday and maybe a couple of others could show... but what about those fields of 30+ cars from not long ago? This is sad....
Only 17 Super Lates took time and it got worse from there... FL/IMCA Mods - 15 cars, and 13 Limited Lates... Crates have yet to qualify and they at least look to have over 20... SK's practiced 6-7 cars I think...
Is the economy really that bad? If 86 UMP Mods show up at Volusia, I'm not sure you can blame it on Obama!

Supposedly, over 30 ACT cars on the premises.
More Tour Mods expected as the week progresses.

It does kind of magnify some of asphalt racing current issues. If you could somehow find common ground among Super lates, Crate lates, Limited lates and ACT lates, you would theoretically have over 80 Late models at New Smyrna.

Fri night at VCS had 36 WOO sprint cars and 80 mods.big crowd.A last turn pass for the win in the mods 1 of the Dirt Nights over took Kenny S. as they were battling for the last 5 laps.S. Kinser won the WOO.We were out by 12 pm.Thats pratice Qulifying 4heats 1 dash 1bmain and feature for the sprints
6 heats 3bmains and feature for the mods.2red flags and a habfull of yellows..

I think the constant storms in the northeast and midwest didn't help with the car counts.

There seemed to be a constant stream of haulers coming in as the night went along. I was disappointed not to see Ryan Preece race but the racing was pretty good.

Great call at the end of the crate lates, the 25 rooted his way all the way to the front and spun the leader in 4 on the last lap.

Overall great company, good night of racing and I was home by 12. Won't be back till Monday but looking forward to it.

At least they didn't tear up as much equipment as usual, especially like they do when every race goes green with 20+ cars. Sure, there was some destruction, like Frank Fleming and the other guy who really nailed the wall in a scary crash, but overall there was much less carnage than when the fields were giant like in other years.

After one night, and considering recent NSS races, it looks like it is going to be the entire SLM field versus last nights winner Stephen Nasse.

The tour mods and SK's need to fill in their ranks, but everyone else was doing ok.

Sometimes I can forget how much fun it is to be with a big group of friends at the track. Often I have no problem being by myself and taking it all in, but last night edm and I were with a big group of good friends, and I gotta say we had a blast. The wagering was active, the BS was non-stop, and I didn't want to leave when the races ended. If you are in doubt about how to celebrate race weeks, just round up some buds and hit a track!

I did hear that quite a few more Mods are coming in... I think alot of late coming in this year is due to work/school/weather all combined... Got a feeling tonight will be very interesting with Super Stocks at NSS as well as the rest of the classes...

As Seminole Wind said, if you added all 3 late model classes together, there was a mess of late models! As most of you know even better than I, years ago there was only one late model class, then later on they had super and limited lates, and now we have 3 separate late models classes. It has diluted the individual strength, and I think the numbers show the crate engines are deemed the best economic option. That being said, I thought the racing was pretty good.

There is a small phrase that has been used & written over and over again in every promoter publication concerning the multi look alike classes:

''If the average fan cannot tell them apart, you have one class too many...''

Another thing to consider, 45 cars in 3 classes is 3 different purses with 3 different paid winner while 45 cars in one class is one purse with one winner that could benefit a better purse for the ''real'' racers and a waaaay better show for the fans.
