  • ALLTEL Dirt Car Natls. @ V.S.P.

Tue. Feb. 5th. Opening night was a good one with 75 UMP mods. and over 50 All Star Sprints. Donny Schatz debuted the ARMOR ALL sponsored no.15 in fine fashion with the A main win and Missouri's Jason Stovall dismantled the field in the modifieds. O'reilly all stars back in action tonight thru thu. with Ump modifieds.

Can we speed up the show or change the format a little?

Beleive me gentleman, I myself would rather not carry these programs into the next day either, however, it was opening night and its a challenge to get the cars into a rhythem. As for the weekly show we average 130 racecars and are always done at or before 11:00. Come on H fan, you should be happy the drivers dragged their feet a little. It gave your boy a chance to change that motor he blew up.

Joe even with his qualifying time Jac could have skipped his heat and started near the front of the C. Then started basically where he did in the B...So guys dragging their feet makes little difference on his engine change. Besides they had the new one in and pushed off before the second mod heat race finished...He did put on a SHOW!

No comment on the weekly show statement!

Now you know why Joe is so "loose" when he announces lol... Have fun Joe, wish I had some Sprints to do... the old days at Volusia were a blast...

Joe, I know you don't control how the show is run. And I understand the mod guys paid their money to be part of the show too. And when they go green flag racing they do a good job...But, if you get the chance to point this out to the powers that be. Every year the first couple of nights of mod heat races have taken forever. Maybe do like was proposed earlier.
Qualify the sprints, two mod heat races, sprint heats, a mod heat, C main sprints, fourth mod heat, B main sprints, first mod B main or two, sprints feature and then mods until the sun comes up...Just an idea. Thanks for the offer on the beer.

Do the sprints first, then let the mods run all night. Last night was ridiculous. I didn't get home till 2:30 and only had to drive 1 1/2 hrs. Hope they do better tonight. billy

                  Agreed.

Seeing how Barberville is in the middle of nowhere, just about all of the fans have a long drive back to somewhere during the middle of the week.

I really don't want to be there until midnight tonight.

I am in DeLand and I didnt get home till about 1, I would have had to pack it in early if I lived elsewhere.

It was suggested in the other thread that 410 qualifying could be done away with, but the more I think about it, I would rather see the time limit for each heat. It would have the added bonus of keeping the drivers from wasting time unnecessarily. The Sprints managed to fly around that place at nearly 150 wheel to wheel and i can count the cautions on one hand. The mods just can't seem to stay straight or run clean. I like 5 - wide into turn 1 as much as anybody, but when the outcome is a 25 minute caution with the wrecker crew figuring out how to slide a mod onto a flatbed while it is sideways, I would rather do without.

I am also not a big fan of the reserved seats...although it did keep our area empty as not many people bought them. I just kept having that feeling that I was going to get booted.

All that said, it was a helluva show and I am glad they have this stuff so close to where I live.

And I'd just like to add, yes I may bitch about time going long, but I feel super very fortunate to live somewhat within driving distance of this annual event.

Just look at the roster for last night. The depth of talent in the sprint cars at Barberville is absolutely staggering.

Agreed! The racing at this time is one of the highlights of my year. EBR, USA, VSP, OSW and of course NSS will all get a few visits.

I too am extremely happy to have Speedweeks. I'm hooked and I can't get enough...That being said, I've been going to Volusia for many years for Speedweeks and its the same complaint every year. The mods have way too many cautions and the show runs long because of them...When the mods finally get it right. Its not a bad show.

But as a Volusia Speedweeks regular, you expect long nights. So I'll be there with a smile on ready for some more racing.

Come on guys, lighten up a little. I am tired at work today too, but you can't expect 75 mods from all over to come together on the first night and run without some accidents. It's speedweeks, all of you well know the show may run late. Do like I do, and plan some of your vacation days around it.

Good job on the mic last night Joe. Your grandstand guy was a little over zealous on explaining the rules of the 3 golf balls every single time LOL. I think we got it after a time or two, it''s not rocket science.
