East Bay night 1

Those 360's put on a heck of a main event last night! I also got to meet Bill Green who coughed up my "Fan of the Week" gas money. Naturally, he caught me spending it on a EBR shirt and a try in the sprint car simulators!

I gotta complain about something, so here is my only gripe. The starter certainly called back a lot of starts last night. In the Sprint feature, the field went almost a complete lap when he waved them off, but then there were crashes on the next two restarts. I think he needs to lighten up a bit!

Gotta love East Bay in the winter: almost 100 cars, and 65 degrees at the end of the night!

A tip of the hat to two Florida racers.

Matt Tiffany made me absolutely hold my breath for 3 laps at the start of the feature. The groove was wide and slick, so Matt was running the cushion on the outside of Darryn Pittman. Darryn looked to be completely out of control for the first few laps, but Matt never hesitated to stick himself between Pittman and the wall. Gutsy!

While this was happening, Greg Leonard, who started near the rear of the 25 car field, jumped up to about 6'th. I wish I would have seen it! He passed at least a dozen cars in 3 laps or so.

Have to agree with you about the starter calling so many starts off. Some that looked like good fair starts to me. You couldn't ask for nicer weather. I sat with a bunch of people from Ohio, Wisconsin, and New Jersey. Had a great time talking with them and hearing how great Eldora is. One man was a former car owner for Jack Hewitt and I had a good time talking racing with him. Another couple had an unexpected phone call during the races and had to leave to take the call. They came back and announced they were new grandparents. Another man from Florida who's grand daughter was racing in the mini-sprints. She finished middle of the pack and he was upset with the new shocks they had just put on. The former car owner started talking with him offering some advice and giving lots of encouragement. I think all of us in that area of the stands had a good time. I certainly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and great company. I only wish I knew more of the participants. I totally missed Adams coming through the field.
BTW, I was surprised at the rather small crowd. Nice weather and the first race of the year made me think there would have been a larger crowd.
