A Few More From The Asa Race At Speedfest

1) George Crenshaw/Logan Ruffin crash on the opening lap...
2) Crenshaw exits his crunched car...
3) Ruffin spins Patrick Starpoli...
4) Jimmy Lang passes Eddie Hoffman early in the race...
5) Hoffman gets spun by Sean Murphy with four laps to go... Murphy definately got into him, but the officials let it go and Hoffman didn't protest..

Dave... there is a reason Hoffman didn't protest... Murphy was clear to his door and he came down on him in 3...

As for the Ruffin / Staropoli incident... looked like the same thing... Ruffin kept his line and Patrick came down on him... although Ruffin was not as far along side Staropoli as Murphy was with Hoffman...

Just because there is contact... does not always mean the the second car is at fault.

yeah, Murphy didn't 'get into him', Murphy couldn't go any lower on the track. the only thing Murphy did was to refuse to back out of his line. he had every right to be where he was.

as much as Hoffman impressed me he definitely was playing a dangerous game, cutting Murphy off several times over the last 20 laps. they actually had some pretty significant contact in 1&2 around lap 85 that got them both crossed up trying to get onto the back stretch.


in a "real race" Hoffman would have been in the right but in spotter racing just having your nose inside the rear bumper means you have the position. Hoffman should have been defending the bottom lane and forced Murphy to the outside. i don't know that Murphy would have gotten that pass done.

As for the Ruffin / Staropoli incident... looked like the same thing... Ruffin kept his line and Patrick came down on him... although Ruffin was not as far along side Staropoli as Murphy was with Hoffman...

Just because there is contact... does not always mean the the second car is at fault.

Ruffin barely had a nose under the 97's LR he wasn't even up to his tire. That is not position he should have been the one to back out. He also took out the 07 before they even made a lap! I hope he learns some patience....

But.....

Todd sez Murphy didn't get into Hoffman and he couldn't go any lower on the track than he was......and Mark sez Murphy was far enough alongside to not concede the inside line..........

The picture tells a different story.

Murphy's nose was right at his rear wheel which seems to be located somewhere BEHIND his door panel......and if he's as low as he can go on the race track then maybe they need to hook up with the 86 team and get their setup for running down on the yellow line. Plus....and this is just from the picture....looks like Hoffman and the 86's lines are preety much the same but the 31 has a teensy, tiny bit of right hand steerage goin on there.....

Again, one picture can't tell the whole story and if there was some previous extracurricular activities between these two already going on then whose to say.........but sometimes.....

I am trying to get an unbias opinion on the 47 and 24 incident. I have heard what both teams said but I wanted to here from the spectators.

The Third Picture is NOT from that incident... if you look closely... that is NOT the #32 next to Hoffman in Picture #3, it is Wilson #62... just an FYI...

As for the Ruffin / #07 Incident...[and I have video of it] is the #07 was a few rows behind Ruffin when Ruffin spun... the #07 hit Ruffin in the left front while Ruffin was stopped sideways in turn 3... not sure how that makes him at fault for 'taking' out another car...

Oops your right he tried to cut down on someone I got my words mixed up when I posted and the 07 did plow into him. But I am pretty sure the kid did cause that one and well did end up taking the 07 out in a way. lol I would like to see the vid if you have it but from where I was standing (on top of the 93 trailer) it sure looked like the kid cut someone off.

I was standing at the pit crossing on the back stretch at the end of that race. Murphy was at his door going into that corner. Hoffman had cut him off a couple of other times also. I think Hoffman knew Murphy was faster and just hoped he would lift. He obviously did not put up any argument and went to the rear.

Oh well.....I've never been accused of NOT being stupid......

But it does reaffirm what I said about a picture saying a thousand words.....I just never said they were the RIGHT words..........lol

Probably the most telling fact of who was at fault is that Hoffman wasn't upset about it.....he's been around and probably knows better than anybody what went on..........or maybe he's just real patient with his revenge......

Hoffman displayed the character of the true veteran he is. Below is quote from the story at speed51.com:

Hoffman admitted that he tried with everything he had to keep Murphy at bay.

“That was all me, I came down on Shawn,” said Hoffman. “The spotter kept telling me a couple of times that he was down there quarter panel and stuff, but I would be able to dive down there in the corner and beat him. doesn't matter in spotter racing. in spotter racing, inside is inside and if you're not the one on the inside you're pretty damn foolish not to give the position up voluntarily. if you want to get rid of spotters you won't have an argument from me but that's a whole other discussion.

other than that, you had me going pretty good for a bit there. i was scratching my head going "what the hell, i don't remember a lap car being involved in that pass....." doh

that particular incident we're looking at there, Wilson was forcing his way into the hole Lang just made. and being a little excessively forceful about it, too.
