  • Today's big wreck at Daytona

Here's a picture of Steve Wallace's #66 after he hit the fence in the pit area at Daytona today. Sure is a good thing there wasn't someone walking in front of him. You can read the story on Jayski.com

"I had been out there drafting all day long and we went to do a qualifying run, and like everybody knows, you pull the brakes back for qualifying [pulling the brake pads away from the rotors to keep from losing momentum via friction].

"It usually takes four or five pumps on the [brake] pedal to build the pedal back up so the car can stop, and I just honestly forgot the damned brakes were pulled back, I went around the corner a little fast and went to hit the brakes -- the pedal went to the floor and there was nothing I could do about it.

"I hate it and I'm sorry about the gate, but it's just an honest mistake by me. Like I told my dad, it's the same as if you run up to your driveway going about 30 miles an hour, you go to put your brakes on and there's nothing there. You run your mailbox over -- it's the same type of deal."

straight from the horse's @$$3$ mouth. funny thing is, he makes it sound like he's already run over the mailbox before.

i like how every year Wallace averages a worse finish than what he started. a lot of promise here, dontcha think?

Sorry about the gate? Screw the gate. How about apologizing to the crew for crimping a perfectly good racecar.

My other house is in Orange Park and I probably worked at most of the tracks in Florida when we where working with the FMSA. Heck, went through St Augustine from dirt to pavement and VCS Dirt_Pavement_Dirt. See why I20 is so interesting!!

Maybe the crew will let him fix it by himself.

I heard from someone who was there, that the napcar officials told the rollback driver to wait for the officials to get there. Once the officials got there they took planty of pictures...Also what Steven left out of the little incident was the fact that the rolling portion of the gate went flying into the air and out onto pit road...I'm sure napcar will be sending Rusty Wallace a bill for the damage!

So did Jerry's post get censored, deleted, self-censored or just travel into the Bermuda triangle? Just wondering after seeing Carol's post? Must be pretty bad considering what Carol got away with.

I think they should blame the fence company for putting the gate so close to the front of his car.
