  • V8 Camaro's in Strictly Stock Class @ OSW?

Confused...my daughter just started this year running Strictly Stocks
I'm a little confused as to what you can run in this division.Didn't know you could run V8 Camaro's in this class....was wanting to build a car for next season. Are the V8 Camaro's legal now?

This is second hand information, so it is not straight from the tech shed. However, it is consistent with what I've seen since the new inspector took over. After always being illegal, V8 Camaros are now legal, but they have to carry 500 pounds and be no more than 52% left side weight.

One of these Camaros absolutely stunk up the show last night, then pulled off late in the race. I don't know if he had the extra weight or not, and I don't care that he was "just testing for the enduro", 93 made a mess of the race by running away so far ahead and pulling out. To his credit, Bruce he did pull off and didn't take the win, but it made for an odd race.

More second hand info: one of the cars at New Smyrna made weight by putting a 500 pound block of concrete in the back seat. It was held to the floorboard by two pieces of rebar. Can you think of anything less safe than this?

As a car owner in the class, here are my two cents. Leave things the way they were: no 350 CI engines. AND enforce this rule all the time, instead of just some times.

Thanks for the info Boneman. My daughter races the #4 Strictly Stock and we were just wondering what we needed to do/have to be more competitive next season.Maybe they should run a 4 cylinder class, seperate from the V8'S?Would like to hear more input on this subject...

its become to hell with the rulebook we wrote that many built cars to . we need car count . we gain one or two camaros and lose 10 regulars .brilliant philosophy !

Butch and Kim had said that they could run to test for the enduro but had to pull off with two to go. Butch is still saying that the class will not run Camaros or Firebirds at all no V-8s or V-6.

                  Camaro @osw

I ran a camaro in 09 in the stricty stock class at osw and I ran a 305 ci engine and it was a top 5 car each week but I could not out run the 350's in the older chevy's but I still had a lot of fun. I personally dont no why they dont like camaro's at osw they dont have no advantge over the other cars as long as they are strictly stock with no big motor and a cage in them for safety. I was told at the end of the season that no camaro's will be ran in 10
so I sold my car . That didnt last but two weeks and I see all these camaro's showing up to race . I ran every week and I brought atleast 4 to 5 people with me each week into the pits. They need to make a rule and stick to it .And the car count just might increase. I know for one I would have raced all year in 10 so they lost out on that . I'm very unhappy about the whole thing with this issue. But I'm trying to find or build me car for 11 but it wont be a camaro you can bet on that!!!!

I agree 100% There no loyalty to the rule book, and for no apparent reason?
The rules say MUST be stock for year make and model. Bottom line if they stuck to that there wouldn't be as much of a problem.

the rules say a maximum 305 motor for a metric car, regardless of whether it is a camaro or a monte carlo. seems like a big monte carlo with the 350 is pretty competitive with a metric car with a 305. wasn't that the point of the rule? if there was a 350 metric camaro there, then it was illegal per the current rules. if you want to outlaw the cars that are winning all the races, i dont think that would be a camaro.

i dont disagree about separate classes for four-cylinder and V-8s. i ran a two-door cavalier when the OSW class was only four-cylinders, but but moved to a V-8 because i did not much want to be in a cavalier and get T-boned by a crown victoria.

i know the car you had and it would have won every race if it had a good driver in it...friday bruce tested his v8 camaro and lapped all but 3 cars.if they let v8 camaros run it will kill the class

No, that is no solution for me. The Secret Weapon and I want to run at OSW, but this situation does need to be clearified.

Last week, the dominant Camaro pulled out, but a few weeks ago that same car took home the money in the longer race, so this issue is far from settled.

a 305 isnt going to run wth the 350s at auburndale and citrus, especially since they run those american racer tires.
