Don, I know you know more about it than I do, BUT, whats wrong with a hobby making money?? I mean I keep hearing on here that a track is a business, dozens of times i've heard when someone suggests a tire rule, or why hasn't the price of racing gas gone down, its always "a track is a business, then when someone makes a suggestion or asks a question, all of a sudden the tracks are a hobby only. Now, you mentioned fishing, guess thats a big joke to you, but know what? There are a lot more fisherman than racers, sad thing is, LOTS of the fishermen were racers!! And unlike me, many of them have totally given up on racing. Go to the New Smyrna boat ramp, any weekend around 8 A.M. and look at the parking lot, don't plan to stay a while cause there will be no parkin available. How many of those people used to go to the races? Why, they got tired of the BS Don. Just my opinion, we don't have to agree do we Don??

no we dont have to agree but when you taket the bull out we do.
I like fishing and quit when i had a racecar . Didnt have time for that.
Bought my first track and had to quit fishing agin not enough time or money.
So all my life fishing and racing have ben my hobby. For 32 years raceing has been my job. now they are both my hoby agin. Ware is the web site that i bitch on when i dont catch fish ore the price of bate goes up.If u got a 4stroke u got to weigh more and the price of fule who do they think there are .
dint u love it.

The web site is Florida sportsman.com.Huge following. But you missed my point, It seems (no offense) but you can't make your mind up wether its a hobby or a business. Like i said, you know more about it than I do, but just to me, and just my opinion, profit will not be made until the FAN turn out is better and that wont happen until car count improves, and that wont happen until the little guy can afford it. I know its nice to sell a set of tires every wek to the money teams, but there are a lot more little guys than big money teams. Why is the car count and fan turn out so much better at Bronson or Citrus? I don't know, but I think someone better find out. Just my humble opinionOriginally posted by Don Nerone View Postno we dont have to agree but when you taket the bull out we do.

There is far more things for fans to do now then ever before with time and $,and in places were there is a bit less to do,a track has a better shot at bringing in fans and cars. Golf is using up the land in some cases,I hate golf, but some how they can build new rat hole spots EZ vs no way to build a track EZ,OK that's no the point but
low over head and EZ to get too are

Well they do it up North, especially Kalamazoo Speedway, they only run late April to October. They also offer some covered seating which would come in handy at places like Citrus.........ever try to attend a race at Citrus in mid August? it's brutal the fan side faces the setting west sun and it's damn hot.Originally posted by carolwicks View Posti wonder how the owners would pay their bills for the months of no racing... its easy for us to say what they should do but they still have to make a living. PGS has a lease. whether they race or not they have to pay thousands a month to the airport and they still have to keep the place clean, mow and pay insurance etc....
its easy to sit in front of a PC and say what everyone else should do and sometimes i think our suggestions are very good ones, however it may not work for owners for one reason or another. i dont think its fair to accuse all of them of being greedy or uncaring. we think we have all the answers but we dont!.
i do think sundays would work if it rained on saturday. the drivers are already there and the crowds already have rain checks., i think others who had to work on saturday could make it and add to the crowd on sunday. saves the drivers in haulers a huge amount of money but should be announced before the race date so everyone knows the plan. that might avoid the booking over another tracks race also...

They also have a 1 tire rule at K-zoo, so the guy with 4 million in the bank, bringing his modified in a NASCAR style hauler can't just shell out $600 for a new set and blow the field away.
Here's another gimmick that they use. They'll line up a demo derby, street car race, school bus show one Sat. and if you attend that you get a free ticket for next weeks regular racing event. They are far more involved in local commercial sponsorship with a VIP area if a company want's to treat employees to a night of racing. They are a NASCAR santioned track so that helps them, but to go to K-Zoo you are going to see 30+ Late Models, 20-30 Modifieds.....A and B mains and virtually every race comes down to wire......none of this follow the leader stuff you see in FL.

As Mr. Barlow said, there is far more for people to do, especially here in central Florida, versus a place like Kalamazoo, Michigan, or Bronson or Lake City for that matter. It is why mud bogs work in places like Palatka and Lake City, and struggle here is Saint Augustine, a tourist beach town.Joe Jacalone
