Just asking a question, but what is it with the Trucks this year? 9 at Desoto, 3 at OSW this week.... Had 13 at Auburndale last month but two broke in practice leaving 11... 11 is the most we've had all year... Hard to get into double figures at NSS and Punta Gorda too... Citrus tried them once, got 3 and said the heck with it... I'm worried Rick will be able to attract 20 for his Charity Race this year... What is it? Economy, Rules, Tires....

Desoto has had up to 18 for a race this year,

The problem is the payout is different at all tracks, some rules are different, three track on hoosiers two track on american racers one track on goodyears.
There is not enough money for the drivers to run all the tracks having to buy three sets of tires. Another problem has been tracks putting dates on top of each other.

So far I have spoke with 15 drivers and they would like to see a series again for the trucks in 2011. If the track owners would be interested in series to run at there track I am sure a series could bring 20 to 25 trucks to every race. All it would take is there be consistency in rules and payout for the year.

The problem I see with a Touring series for the Trucks, is that there is very little fan support out there for this class. The racers want more money, and will probably pull in a fair amount of trucks. BUT, will there be any additional fans in the bleachers that would pay for the cost difference?

I know, from personal experience, that fans aren't too crazy about getting charged $5.00 more per head to see a division they aren't crazy about in the first place.

Before you think I'm just picking on the trucks, I have the same reaction when I see an extra-lap race for ANY support-type division. If the track wants an extra $5 out of me for a Mini-Stock extravaganza, or a 50 lap Strictly Stock race, they are keeping me AWAY... not tempting me to come.

If any of you tracks are listening (HaHa), keep in mind you are LOSING people with these decisions. If I could see these "special" races for the REGULAR costs, it would be a bonus I might consider. If you want MORE money from me, you will see me spending my $$$'s at another track. I ain't afraid to travel past 4 tracks to get to the best deal. $15 for a Truck "special" won't cut it.

Somewhat the same for headliner divisions. $15 for a Sprint car or SLM special is acceptable... $20 is NOT.

I'm not ignorant to the fact that these classes cost more to have at your track, but also think about how many people stayed HOME because of the difference. Not only the front gate either. If I was a Strictly Stock guy racing for trophys, I would think twice before I spent $35 a head to get in these shows (instead of the usual $25) when there is ZERO increase in it for me. That's why, almost always, you will see a lower-than-normal car count in the support classes. Costs them more, but no return for themselves.

Tracks should consider something like a pre-paid pit pass for the track regulars, so they can pay there "normal" cost, instead of an increased one.

Bottom line... don't count so much on how many people/cars came, but concentrate on how many DIDN'T come.... and figure out WHY. It might be that $5-10 per person increase, when they didn't get anything more for themselves than they did for the normal costs.

The payout that Desoto uses is almost the same payout out from the old truck series and the driver do come for this money. It would have to be raised some but in talking with truck owners/drivers they will come and I have talked to some sponsors that would help raise the purse with a field of 18 to 25 trucks with a traveling series.
