Last year, Curt Spalding's World Record lap run at the 3/8ths-mile Kalamazoo Speedway hit 10.217 at 133 MPH. Well, that record was crushed last night by a purpose built asphalt Late Model (Curt ran a dirt Late Model). Andy Bozell turned a 10.038 lap hitting 134.5 MPH!
Really, the video doesn't do this car justice. It actually looks slow on camera. Having been there though, this thing was a beast. From what I heard, it was running custom-built fuel injectors and there were actually aero engineers involved in designing the body and verticals.
It's also worth noting he started dead last in the feature and had lapped all but second place before it was cut short due to a really bad wreck involving another outlaw car.
Check out the HIGH Indy-car-style wing over the top of the roll cage.
I'm wondering how he got the tire marks on the right side of the car...LOL
Have a look...
