  • V8 StockCar @ Homestead for Murray's Speed & Custom Twins

The V8 StockCar Series returns to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the first time since 2007 for the Murray's Speed & Custom Twins on September 18 &19. In 2006 the Series had a points race for all classes and in 2007 there was a V8 GT-1 only weekend. All four classes of V8 StockCar's will battle it out on the high banks as the event will utilize the Grand Am Rolex course, racing down the back straight into Nascar turns three & four. In V8 GT-1 expect a shootout between Dave Machavern in his Riggins Competition prepared Corvette and Charles Wicht in his winged SB2 Chevy powered Monte Carlo. In V8 GT2, 2009 class champ Bob Mayer will bring out his fast ex World Challenge Corvette to battle 2009 runner up Doug Wilson in his quick BMW M3. South Florida's Richard Smith in his Miami FastLane Mazda RX7 could give Mayer and Wilson a fit in his rotary powered rocket. In V8 GTA Tommy "Hollywood" Graham is seeking to add to
his win total and possibly take the Hurricane Cup. The cup goes to the V8 Series racer garnering the most points at the Sebring event a couple of
weeks ago and this event. Graham at this point has a slight edge over Machavern. In V8 SPO look for Paul Breehne in his Roush-Yates Performance
Parts Ford Fusion and Lee Arnold in his Chevy Impala late model stock car never to be far apart.

As the 2010 season begins to wind down the V8 StockCar points leaders are:

V8 GT-1: Dave Machavern Charlotte, Vermont Heritage Motorsports Corvette
V8 GT-2: Doug Wilson Cherry Cars BMW M3 Fort Myers, Fl
V8 SPO: Larry Hoopaugh Charlotte, NC HGC Monte Carlo
V8 GTA: Kurt Roehrig Lexington NC Roehrig Engineering, RE Suspension Monte Carlo

The V8 Series would like to welcom onboard new partner, Murray's Speed & Custom: Established in 1939, Murray's is one of the oldest High Performance
shops in the country. In November 2010, Murray's will open their newest store in Dunedin, Florida.

This weekend we will be running with the Florida Region SCCA. We also on occasion run with HSR (Historic SportsCar Racing), PBOC, and our own sanction.
The individual clubs have differing rules with regard to spectators. I believe you may attend as a guest of the Florida Region with a small fee. (like 5 bucks).

I Will get with Fla Region and advise.

once inside you will pretty much go anywhere the racers are except pit road and the grid

V8 Racers will be in Group 4, and should go out for the first time about 1030 Sat morning with the race about mid afternoon.
There will many classes of SCCA race cars of all types. With each group having a 30 min practice and qualifying and one race each on saturday and sunday.

I spoke with Florida Region SCCA Asst. Regional Executive Bob Ricker.
He advises that those wishing to check out the Fl. Region SCCA racing
this weekend at Homestead may do so by going to the registration building on the back side of the track and see Laurie for credentials. There should
        be no charge.
