Here is a compliment for the track. Yes, it may be a back-handed compliment, but it is sincere. New Smyrna manages to put on a pretty entertaining show, inspite of the car count. 19 Super stocks ran a very interesting 50 lapper, and 12 Sportsman also ran for 50.
All other things being equal, more cars are better, but I suspect that we are just conditioned to seeing not enough cars, so if 2 or 3 of them are putting on a good battle, then we have something to watch and it becomes a good race.
Also, gotta give announcer Mark credit for his handling of the spectator races. Its something he clearly enjoys doing, and is excellent at dishing out the laughs.
The only mind-boggling moment of the night came in the middle of the super stocks. The top two cars were running door to door when the inside car got loose, hit the outside car, and managed to spin himself out. The outside car continued on, but during the resulting yellow, BOTH cars were sent to the back. That one left us scratching our collective heads.
