  • Help wated: Radio show host

Passing this on for Marty Francis, the producer of “Racing Radio,” which airs Sunday 9-10 a.m. on 740 AM, “the Game,” in Orlando.

I started Racing Radio nine years ago this month (on ESPN 1060 and 1080 AM before moving to 740, which was then “The Team,” and now it’s “The Game”), and I did it for three or four years before backing away. My co-host, Jack Dyer, has hosted Racing Radio since, but he just turned 65 and retired. Francis is now looking for a host for the show. Obviously an interest in racing is required, all else is up to him.

I have no idea if there is money involved. That’s between you and Francis if you are interested.

Be aware that this is actual over-the-air radio, not web radio or pod casts. The studio is in Maitland, at Clear Channel. If you can’t make it to Maitland on Sunday mornings, it probaby wouldn’t work out.

The show follows “Cycle Rider Radio,” which Francis hosts. He owns both shows. His email is thebigguy@cycleriderradio.com.

I've worked with him before and he's a good guy... I'll send him an e-mail... All I want is a 10 year guaranteed contract at 435 Million and a newly restored Chrysler K-Car (sort of the same deal LeBron got from the Miami Heat)....
Was fun at the 1991 FASCAR Banquet when Jack Dyer (aka Elvis Gorbachev) was in the same building and stopped by to "perform."

I remember when I did a radio show with Terry here in Brevard. We had a ball doing it. We started out in a radio station off 46 and then moved to one in Cocoa. And it was live radio but also eventually was cast on the web also. It was a ball so I know you will have fun Dave if you do it. Never made one cent from it but still loved it. It was fun with all the call-ins and also the guests we would have in the studio like the Cornelius boys when they were go-karting and Trish Gray before she raced mini-stocks. Made alot of good friends doing it and it was a blast. But the only one who made money off the show was Terry, the rest of us did it for the fun and love of racing.

How can you be too old?

You actually remember when most Florida tracks had good crowds, good car counts, and a lot of excitement. I don't think anyone under 30 is going to remember that.

with age comes wisdom and knowledge !!! we should not only allow them to share their vast knowledge so we too can pass it on, but we should encourage it!. thats called "H~I~S~T~O~R~Y...!!!! Dave has an incredible amount of racing knowledge stored in that "old" brain... bring it on!!!

Wow, didn't know there was an age limit on doing a radio show. That is kindof wrong in my book. I mean, Terry was no spring chicken on our show but people listened and called in. We also had Greg Stevens, an engine builder there, me and my daughter Kimber and between the four of us, we did a great show. For a long time, people would ask me to start the show again but I could just never find the time to do it. But sorry about that Dave, I definitely don't think you are too old to have fun on a radio show.

How can Dave NOT be the right guy? I mean, anyone who was around when the wheel was invented is surely an authority on the subject!

What about Mark Keeler? He is a young guy. He is a good announcer. He does not talk crap about other tracks.

I remember a radio show with Dave Leckitner, Tom Gray and Sonny Hartley on some years ago. That was a great show as well. Are the demographics really that important to limit someone because of their age?

And Backdoor, why are you telling about Mark Keeler? I don't think he could be out of bed and at the studio that early. I heard the boy likes to party after a good night at NSS...
