The Florida Midget Auto Racing Association (FMARA) ran their ninth race of the season on Saturday night, September 4th, at Punta Gorda Speedway in Punta Gorda, FL with Sarasota's Ted Durfee winning the 25 lap feature for his second in a row and sixth of the season. Starting dead last in the 10 car lineup, Durfee quickly moved into second until a mid-race spin sent him to the rear again. Patiently moving through the field he erased a 10 second deficit and passed Mike Belusar of Punta Gorda as they came to the white flag and went on to the victory. Belusar followed him to a second place finish while Cape Coral’s Geoff Styner was third, Jamie Barnum of Brooksville came in fourth and Chris Gimmler of Palm Beach Gardens finished fifth. Former two-time series Champion Ernie Teed Jr. made his first appearance of the year replacing injured Jack Duffy in the #1, but mechanical problems made his night a short one.
Durfee in the #26 and Styner in the #5 were the winners of the two heat races.
