  • Would this work??? IF not why?

Since I have been sitting out here being Barney Fife of a beautiful facility that is in Foreclosure *gasp* I have been wondering what the feasibility of trying to get rules on the same page.

There is always the problem of Super Lates being this way here and this way somewhere else! I know that some tracks like to create "islands" so that the cars have to run at that facility and in order to run elsewhere make a lot of changes. My thought is get things together! If you are scared of someone running somewhere else, make sure they are happy when they are at your house...racetrack.. This is not limited to Super Late's it goes all the way down the scale.

Legend cars are good examples....they are "supposed" to be the same everywhere...is their program perfect....NO WAY But you can muster up 50-60 of them on any good event!

Stricktly Stocks...That needs to be exactly what it says...this one is a NO brainer

Super Stock/Street Stock...why not go with a set of rules like Frank Kimmel's Street Stock Series and then your drivers could...if they want, go run some big tracks...not everyone will but some would.

What is the obstacle to making rules universal? Would it be a HUGE undertaking? SURE! What are your thoughts?

Now tires you are NEVER going to agree on...each track has it's own deal with the tire makers...but let's face it, if you are going to go run a big race somewhere...you ARE buying tires!

Just wanted to get some feedback...let er rip

...what would be a good set of rules...maybe that are already inplace to implement for each division?

Great idea but it would never happen unless car owners and drivers forced the racetrack owners or operators by not racing at tracks that did not comform.

You need Jimmy Hoffa to lead the effort.

once you figure out how to control what everybody ELSE does, standardizing the rules is easy.

if you can't control the other track owners and they don't want to normalize rules with anybody else, you're wasting your time. if you matched their rule book they'd just change it the next year. also, if you start copying their book and they don't like it they could sue you for violating copyright and infringing on their business practices.

the only truly viable way to do it would be a traveling or nationwide sanctioning body with big purses. put up enough money that the racers are going to be there come hell or high water and the owners/promoters wouldn't have to permit your cars to run during the rest of the year. but it would be pretty stupid to have all those cars sitting idle doing nothing. this is not to say that track owners/promoters never do anything amazingly stupid...

of course, putting up purses that big ( 5 and 6 figures like they do on dirt ) leads directly to the serious question, "how does the promoter make a buck on this show"?

on a smaller scale, the only thing you can do is talk to your neighboring tracks/tech men and start normalizing your rule books with each other voluntarily. Auburndale and Inverness are doing this down here. they aren't exactly the same yet, but they're closer.

Kalamazoo has a good rule book. i like how they permit the new unibody cars to install brace bars to strengthen the weak frames but they forbid nerf bars.

nobody can argue that Slinger isn't kicking major ass but you have to pay cash to get one of their books. since you ain't doing nothing else, make a weekend trip to Milwaukee and visit Slinger for a Sunday show. you got til Sept 19th.
          http://www.slingersuperspeedway.com/schedule

it will blow your mind how well a track can be run. the only thing i have against them is that they don't have a crash buggy like FASCAR does.

SCCA and NASA have nationwide rule books already but some of their decisions are pretty odd ( 2 bars x'd is all that is required in the drivers door but they also require downbars from the back of the cage to the area above the rear wheels because they're afraid of the cars getting accordioned ). also, many asphalt classes don't have an analog in SCCA.

I think there is only 1 existing organization who would have the ability to unify short track racing.
            Unfortunately, that organization is.....ughhhh.......Nascar

Maybe someday, someone with influence within Nascar will realize that attempting to destroy weekly racing is detrimental to Nascar's own success.

Rusty are you at the track most days? My wife is from Monroe and her family is having a reunion 9/18. We plan on being there 9/16 till 9/24 or 25. I'd like to see the track and meet you. That track looks fine and its a shame it didn't work out. Are you still racing during the forclosure? I look forward to meeting you. Bob...

My thinking was not just for a traveling show...in a sence they hurt the tracks...drivers park the cars and run them only in the "big" shows. My thought was to get everyone on the same page...if you can get the snowball rolling it will gain momentem. Is everyone going to comply...NO especially not at first...but when the drivers see that they can take their car with MINIMAL changes and run where ever there has to be a certain luxury to that.

I just feel it would alliviate all of this ratteling back and forth with the rules...

Maybe Super Lates being on ..lets just say CRA rules
Lates being on ASA etc etc
Now I am not saying that their rule packages are the best just using them as examples...and who ever rules they have to stay the same and that has to be understood from the git go! And there will be small changes that have to be made just not HUGE stuff from year to year! Keep it simple!

Disclaimer...what I said before does not mean that I do not like traveling shows...just feel when you have too many of them the cars become "specialty" cars and only come out to play at certain times...

OHHH and YES I am here at the track ALL THE TIME it ain't easy being Barney Fife...you never know when an intruder might try and take the place LOL I look forward to seeing you! You will LOVE the place...and bring your check book I can sell it to you for a very very good price

Class's that look a like to non hard core fans* are alike,we have way to many class that don't or won't run together. show are too long and too few cars per class from same.
Big fish in small pond sindrome, many don't really wish for big pond=many cars in race,so no show=no fan=no track, pay off has less % to do with then it's blamed on.
\ The trickyist part of rules is inforcemint.
To fill stands you need a lot of fans that could not be called hard core to add to the hardcore that are there no matter just about..

The closest thing you could put together right now is to bring back the Southern Sportsmen Series and get the tracks to convert to the rules. Most of the tracks have some kind of version of them already and once a consensus was made for a rule book , it would not cost a lot of racers too much money to adjust. I think everyone is now on an 8" treaded tire, no one has strict body rules etc.....the biggest thing would be motors but they now have the spec motor that is less than 5K turn key.
You could get numerous cars back from all over the state. Have a small schedule, maybe one 50-75 lap race per track once a month and then run maybe once or twice a month for a regular show so the guys could stay at their local tracks or maybe go practice at wherever the next race in the series would be.
I would bet that there would be a 100 or so cars throughout the state that would be built, converted or just dusted off. That would be enough for good car counts at all the tracks running the rules weekly and a good percentage of them would travel once a month.
they had some good rules for evening the playing field like adding weight if you won or starting in the rear the next race etc..etc...They teched pretty well, even catching PT's different bore size block after after numerous tries (sorry PT for throwing you under the bus).
the best thing about the class is that there is still a little innovation allowed and the different body styles are not only economical but great for the fans.
