ARCA Story leading up to the Weekend:
Coulter Leads France Four Crown with One to Go
(JOLIET, Ill. - August 27, 2010) - Joey Coulter (No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel/Darrell Gwynn Foundation Chevrolet) leads the pursuit of the prestigious season-within-a-season Bill France Four Crown Award, which rewards ARCA Racing Series drivers for success on a diverse slate of tracks. The season-within-a-season contest will be decided in tonight's Ansell Protective Gloves 150 at Chicagoland Speedway.
The Four Crown schedule provides a link to the series' roots in providing a vast array of racing surfaces in any given season. The schedule has been composed completely of the ARCA Racing Series races scheduled for August, at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway (short track, August 7), New Jersey Motorsports Park (road course, August 15), the Illinois State Fairgrounds (dirt oval, August 22), and this evening's Ansell Protective Gloves 150 at Chicagoland Speedway.
"The Bill France Four Crown Award speaks to the very nature of the ARCA Racing Series. Being the full-bodied stock car series that runs on speedways, road courses, short tracks, and dirt ovals, this is the epitome of what our series is about," said Ron Drager, president of ARCA. "It's particularly appropriate that the Four Crown will be decided and awarded at an ISC (International Speedway Corporation) track, as Bill France Sr. played such a large role in the ARCA's history."
Four Crown points are allocated without qualifying or in-race bonuses, and distributed in the same method as in the official series standings.
Coulter will clinch the Four Crown title regardless of any other driver's finish with a top-five result tonight at Chicagoland Speedway.
Joey Coulter's eighth-place finish, even when coupled with Sheltra's win, gave him a wire-to-wire win in the Bill France Four Crown Award. Coulter (No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel/Darrell Gwynn Foundation Chevrolet) defeated Sheltra by a mere 10 points, 745-735, to win the season-within-a-season contest which awards drivers for success on a diverse slate of tracks. Coulter won the contest-opening race at the 0.4-mile Berlin Raceway on August 7, finished second at the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course on August 15, and finished fourth at the Illinois State Fairgrounds dirt oval on August 22.
Congrats to the whole TEAM!
