George "Crash" Tidd's X9 Top Cat

If anyone has any information or photos of the X9 Top Cat car please send it to me. George "Crash" Tidd is my father and he drove the X9 when I was a kid. He and Hubert Sutton had a garage off of 33rd street in Orlando. I rode in that car at Orlando raceway as a kid and have been serching for any information on the car I could find. As for my dad I have probably 10 or 12 scrap books of his if anyone would like information about what are in them. My dad passed away 11/23/86.
I am new to this site so I am going to put my email down here also.

      Thanks,

      John Tidd

Welcome to the site, John! There's a LOT of us "Ol' Skool" guys here

If you can get in touch with Dave Westerman (ancrdave), he can probably help you out. I believe he lives in the Orlando area. Do you have a way of scanning your scrapbooks?

Marty Little would be very interested in any photos especially if there 33/34 ford coupe sponored by United Parts. Its the same car as the one sponsored by Heidelberg Inn. I remember your dad racing at the old Orlando raceway and one night he and Rosebud Flowers had a roll over contest to see who could get the most roll out their car. He was a popular driver in the late 50s.

The X9 coupe was a really neat race car that "Crash" Tidd drove around '63-'64... He pretty much quit racing after that time period... Wish I could find more old Orlando/Eau Gallie pix from the late '50s and early '60s...

                    I remember...

                    ....the 500.

Sugarbear John Berg used it at East Bay in the Late Models and it also showed up on that little Dodge Colt Super Six that a few people drove (I think it was Charlie(?) Ragan at East Bay but I think I remember Bobby Alexander driving it at the Gate a few times)

Not sure but it (the 500) may have been a Harry Crouse number....not sure....but speaking of the Crouse's and Bobby Alexander....how about his number 15....he's campaigned that number for a long time....

                    Others I remember.....Larry Moore's Paul's Pipeline (P1) cars......Duvall's Flintstone Flyer (F1).....Jerry Inmon's D7.....Lenny Boehler's blue number 3

                    ....still thinkin'.....

Yeah, OJ, I remember the #500 from a couple different places: Davy Crockett drove one down in south Florida (Palm Beach and Hialeah), and then the one from the west coast that you mentioned. I seen it at the 'Gate on the Super Six car, and might have have seen it the one and only time I went to the 'Bay in '83. When it was on the Super Six, I can remember both Donnie Tanner and Alexander driving it.

Going back up north, wasn't there an x89 and an x90 on a couple of Modifieds? Freddie Harbach drove one and Mike Grbac drove the other, I believe.

I always thought Don Gregory's Camaros looked pretty cool with the number on the rear quarter panel (the old Jeg's purple and white cars).

Butch Lindley drove a Dillon/Prototype house car #V6, with a V6 in it, when ASA was trying to get everyone to go to the small motors.

There used to be a guy show up at the old Saint Augustine Raceway with what I believe was a Ford Fairlane numbered, "289"

                              Don Gregory...

Yep....that always stood out to me too, Jimmy. The "7" way back there and the purple and white color scheme....I guess that was waaaayyyyyy before Jegs went all yellow and black.....lol

I remember Dan Jones (again, I think cuz my memory is getting as short as....Binner's winkie) in an old "Southern Modified" with an "x100" or a "100x" at East Bay, too.......I'm sure Mr. (Encyclopedia Jones) Westerman can verify that one too....lol

Oh....just remembered David Schmauss had his Thundercars (East Bay) painted and lettered like a popular brand (EZ Widers) of rolling papers and numbered "1.25" and "1.50"

okay who's gonna ak me "What are rolling papers?"
