  • Help the Family of Moon Burgess Find This Car!

Richard Burgess, Jr. the son of New England stock car racing great of the 40s & 50s, Moon Burgess, would like your help in finding the replica car of the famed Eagle 1 race car that his father use to drive. Recently, through the grapevine, he heard that someone from Florida bought the car.

If you are that person or know who purchased the car please get in touch with Richard.

You may see the car, Richard's story and the way to contact him on the web site www.moonburgess.com

The "Racecars of Yesteryear" guys or whatever they're called were at Citrus a couple weeks ago. I looked through their pictures and didn't see anything like it. However, I will say that I really enjoyed watching that group run. They had quite a few cars and they actually put on some pretty decent racing. What was neat were the cars really reminded me of the "old" days. They weren't junk but some of the cars had some faded paint and hand painted numbers and there were rusty frames and headers on the cars. Just like I remembered them. There were some DAARA guys running also and they are cool. But there cars are too clean. LOL

I remember watching a Rich Burgess run quite a bit in NY. He went on to race the Daytona Dash series and the last I heard he was part of a NASCAR cup crew, although I can't remember which one. I believe his father was the longtime northeast announcer known as "Doc" Burgess, who has since passed away. Is this the same person or have I gone completely senile? Looking at the website, it doesn't appear to be.

I believe the car you’re referring to was sold HERE
at auction in Palm Beach this past April.

A friend of mine was there consulting for a buyer
on another racer and mentioned it to me.

I assume the family could track it through the Barrett-Jackson folks.

According to the articles I read at the time,
Richard “Moon” Burgess passed away this past
March on St. Patrick ’s Day at the age of 81
after suffering a stroke earlier in the month.

You can check out some of “Moon’s” history
and background with the car HERE & HERE.

Just got this in from Rich Burgess, Jr.

          "Thank you John,

We called the auction and pleaded for info. They personally contacted the buyer who would not return their calls. The person who "stole" my Dad's car sold it as the original which it wasn't. Many parts were, but it was a repro. My Dad never screwed over anyone in his life and we feel the new owner needs to know the truth. We would like to buy the car back for obvious sentimental value. The scumbag who lied to us stating he needed the family's permission for a press release used the info to boost the price and make a hefty profit * he only paid 6,000 for this car * can no longer sell at Barrett Jackson, some justice. Again we appreciate the help.

Let's get together and see what to do next.

            Talk soon Rich"
