Holy Cow!

I just got home from town and wasn't near a computer. Robert called me to let me know about Jack. I want to express my deep appreciation to all who have reached out to Jack during this time. Its a time like this that make me proud to be a part of the racing community. I would like to publicly thank Kevin and Terry for the love that they have shown today. I am proud to be a part of the Punta Gorda Speedway Team. They have made racing fun for me agin. God bless You! Bob....

My heart goes out to you man. I know how close you have been with Jack for several years. Just Know man Jacks in the habds of the Master and he has perfect peace with whats happening to him. I have talked with him several times in the past few months and him and Kathy both have found that peace. I have a will pray for you to find peace with this. Bless you brother. Bob...

latest news...

i just got home from the hospital. jack is pretty weak. 2 of his daughters were there and his granddaughter and wife. just his oldest daughter and i stayed. he doesnt want to be alone so i try to stay until he falls asleep. we talked to a nurse about DNR which is something he may have to deal with tomorrow. i asked the nurse if he could change his mind at the last minute and she said yes so Jack felt some relief in that. he is terrified of more broken bones. he has another broken bone in his back and the rest are fragile.
we didnt tell him about his youngest daughter coming to see him. the family want to surprise him tomorrow. i will let you know how that goes.
i told Jack about the outpouring of love from the racing family and he broke down and cried. he is so much in need of love and prayers now and all of you have made Jack feel as tho he never worked in vain and he has REALLY made some awesome friends.
i speak from Jack and i speak from myself. God bless all of you and thank you so much for the gift of love you have bestowed to Jack Smith.

Like JackTripper, I'll break my self-imposed absence to post on this. It truly saddens me to hear of Jacks deterioration. My thoughts are with him and his family as well as his close friends, Rick and Carol. Thanks you Carol for posting this information. Rick, stay strong.

If there is anything I can do please let me know. I still remember the first day I met Jack, it was at Lakeland at the racetrack, and he treated me like I had been media all of my life, even though I was only a few months into it. To him I was equal with any other photographer out there. He and Rick have always been nothing but fun to be around and I value my time with both of them. I am truly blessed to have a friend like Jack!!

this is carol

im using jacks pc in the hospital so i can let you know whats going on. right now he is a bit nervous because soon he is going in for the surgery to impant the thing that dispenses the morphine. he will then go to ICU so they can monitor if its working. everything is uncertain. the good news is that jacks vitals are awesome good and his brain is amazing. he remembers everything and is in control. its just the pain... horrid pain...
his daughter will arrive in Ft myers at about 12:30. im hoping she gets here before he goes down there but i doubt it... jack asked me to read some of your good wishes and he cried like a baby because he is overwhelmed by your love... i will stay here as long as i can and will keep you informed. Thank you again for always being there when times are tough. we dont REALLY hate each other... lol right? we just dont know how to play nice. in truth, right now i seriously love all of you. got to go. jack is calling. oh he just said "i want everyone out there in radioland to know i love them and thank you all for your support!

Update!

they just took jack down for the surgery about 1/2 hour ago. he has gone without food or drink since early yesterday! he is in excruciating pain and the drugs they have given him hourly would knock down a rhino. it does little to help him. his wife and daughters are with him and a few friends stopped by.
it was not a good day so please... please pray hard for Jack. thats pretty much all we can do..
i personally want to tell you that i am so proud to know you people. no matter what trash goes on sometimes, you are the kindest most caring people on this earth and i know if im ever in trouble i wont have a worry in the world. it never matters to you who it is. if they are in the racing family, they are taken care of. we all have good and not so good in us. we need to concentrate more on the good and put the petty stuff behind. life is too short.... i apologize to anyone for anything i have said to them that hurt them... i am truly sorry.
i will keep you posted. Jack will be in ICU tonight.
