I believe Volusia Speedway is OVER REACTING with the situation between Chris Williams and James Smith. Rob Underwood should not have been banned for this he had nothing to do with it. Volusia Speedway was wrong in this and will lose a lot of its modified following if they follow thru with its decision. I believe that this is a personal attack on Rob Underwood from a certain track official.

Someone needs to use a little judgement here. A championship should not be decided based on suspending one of the contenders for the last points week. On the surface, this sounds like one of those idiotic "zero tolerance" decisions like you hear about in schools. You know the type of nonsense; an honors student gets suspended for bringing aspirin to school, etc.

How about filling us in? All I know is that Rob is suspended because one of his crew got in a fight or something. If this is accurate, management needs to step in and let the racers race for the championship.

From my understanding of the event Chris Williams is owner of two cars and Rob Underwood drives the 09 car, the 77x car is driven by Chris Williams. Two to three weeks ago Chris Williams had a incident with James Smith on the track and James Smith has had MANY past probs, he was spoken to but continued to drive over his head. Track officials were asked to speak to him about the probs, the comment from officials was "some one needs to rip him a new one", so apparently this happened via Chris Williams. Rob Underwood car is driven and crewed by 0ther people, Williams is only the car owner, therefore Underwood should not be punished for Williams actions.

That is good news. I was standing about 3 feet from the fight in question when it took place, and i prefer not to comment on that altercation itself. However Rob was a completely innocent victim in the initial ruling. He was, in fact, sitting in a mini stock in staging at the time the fight took place. He had nothing to do with any sort of physical altercation, whatsoever, and was only being held guilty by association. So it seems the right call is being made. Its just not fair to take away a racer's shot at a championship away for an action made while he was not even present in the pit area. IMO.

I witnessed the whole thing... Rob was nowhere near what happened and I don't believe even knew anything about it until he was told he was not going to be able to run the Modified... It actually wasn't really a fight, just two guys with a bear hug on each other... The one thing that bothered me is that these two guys danced around "hugging" each other for over a minute in full view of the tech shed and no track personnel were there to break it up... Some other guys from other crews finally got them apart... A question maybe someone can answer... Is Chris Williams related in any way to Patrick Williams? The reason I ask is that after the "fight" he walked over to the Williams/Durden Street Stock cars rather than back to Rob's pit... just curious...

Rob Underwood is a class act and I'm glad to see he will get a chance to go for the championship... In true Rob Underwood fashion, he calmy discussed the situation with Tonya in the tower, then left on his own (although I did spot him watching the show down in turn two which means he got to have a beer a little earlier than normal...)

The Mod class at VSP is unbelievable, there are so many good cars and drivers... should be quite a show this week... Congrats are in order for Dale Murray who has been very steady all year and in position to grab the title too..
