As I watched the strickly stock race as NSS thursday, I was amused at the brake lights required in that class. What a stupid idea, typical of NSS/OSW rules. I had to check the rules for that class and here is what is required;
roll cage or door bars/no - brake lights/yes, fire suit/no - brake lights/yes - safety seat/no - brake lights/yes - safety harness/no - brake lights/yes - fuel cell mounted between frame rails/no - brake lights/yes. If this is their idea safety to save money, then make all the classes do it and eveyone can save. I realize that it is meant to make it a cheap entry level class, but some common sense please. If you hit something and your "factory" seat breaks loose, or you get "T" boned in the driver's side without a door bar, or some yahoo doesn't see your brake lights and drives up under you and splits your gas tank open, suddenly it ain't so cheap anymore. Safety items do not give you a speed advantage. If a guy wants to spend the money to put a cell between the rails, he should be allowed. Yes, not everyone can afford to race, but no one can afford to get hurt!!!

You are allowed a fuel cell in the truck without gutting it.

My 1st race car was in a similar class where safety equipment was (optional).

I had a 4 point cage, 4 left door bars, 8 gal fuel cell mounted in the trunk, racing seat (properly mounted to cage), 5 point harness, window net, fire extinguisher and full suit with gloves and shoes and that was 20 yrs ago.

Common sense falls on the driver.

as Benny points out, all of those things are allowed. that some of them are actually performance penalties ( the weight involved in caging a car for instance ) is beside the point.

anyways, brake lights weren't added for "safety reasons".

I Had Never Seen Brake Lights On A Race Car Before

The Other Night I Watched A Race On Tv And I Thought It Was Pretty Funny I Think It Would Be Cool To Put Brake Lights On Top Of Lot Of The Race Cars

Then Some Of Cry Babies That Are Complaining About Not Winning And Cheating You Could See Put Green Light On Roof When Gas Was On Floor And Red Light When Foot Was On Brakes

You Could See Some Of Letting Off About Half Way Down Straightway

did not see any turn signals but plenty brake lights

got tell you some thing cool i have a grand son that is 8 but he can do any thing and is really smart

likes to help work on race car can do a lot drive big 4 wheelers do any thing been around tow trucks lot now is one smart good kid loves his granpa

well we were getting ready to do the blast for past race and he had never seen me race but grand ma had showed him lot of pictures back in old days and he goe's off with me a lot

and this one day we were going some were and he said to me pa pa do you still think you can drive a race car and i said sure no doubt

and he looks at me so serious and says are they going to have turn signals on them and i said why and he said well you all ways drive your dually with turn signal on i was just wondering
