  • bad night at orlando

I dont race at orlando or am i anyway involvedwith any of the teams at te track. I am just a fan!
I arrived at the track to find that the crowd thrilling(killing)bandaleros were back but that wasent the worst paart of the night.

that superstock race what were you guys thinking. the "official"at the backstreck was waving the caution so the leader slowed then got passed but the flagman never threw the caution. WHAT THE HELL if an official displays the yellow flag then there should be a fu-kin caution.Ive been ciming to orlando for over ten years andthat was byfar the worse call ive seen. that is what looses car count and with low car count comes empty seats in the grand stands.

what is up with those long cautions.
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

I'll give you both of those points; but overall I thought it was a pretty good night.

Super Stock feature. Yes, I think there was an obvious flagging error that cost Jason Pick a chance at winning. I don't know if there has been an attempt at making this right, or if it is just in the past. But just for perspective; errors of this type occur at all tracks sooner or later. Even I have had a sure win taken away several years ago, by the starter, in a very similar situation.

Bandoleros. Again we agree, they are show killers. The class has many good points, but entertaining a crowd is not one of them. Hopefully this class can be run at a different time, say 6-7 pm, before the car races start.

How did you like the Legend car feature? I thought it was an excellent, hard fought battle. Even their heat race had four different leaders. Strictly Stocks were pretty cool too, especially swapping the lead twice in the last lap of the heat.

Legends dont care to much for them (wouldnt be as bad if i didnt have to listen to them) either why do they get more laps than everyone els? why not leave legends and bandaleros to saturdavs and run some of the better classes om friday meybe classics outlaw 4(or whatever they call the little modifieds now) or even DAAR . stricly stock I like them. they should run them before all the fans go home. last night there wernt 30 people who stayed for the last race and they all missed one of the best.

You raise good points. Personally, I like the Legends. I suspect that they run more laps, and the accompanying Bandolero class, because it is a requirement from the INEX sanction. I'm not sure on this; don't quote me.

Strictly Stocks are often one of the better races, yet they are nearly always presented at the end of the show. Two of the reasons offered for this are that some are locals who don't arrive until very late. This applies to a car or two, every now and then. Also, it is believed that they drop fluids and make a mess of the track. I don't buy this one. Cars in every class have the potential of dropping stuff and making a mess.

I agree with you on the Outlaw Modified class. They have excellent shows, and are the most bang for the buck in short tracking.

I agree with boneman...the entire night was not bad. Just the bandoleros and the superstock flagging.

This is not the first time I have seen that happen. Flagmen AND drivers make mistakes in the heat of the moment. The problem with this mistake is that it not only changed the outcome of the race, it was potentially very dangerous.

When only a few cars saw the back flag go yellow they slowed up while the others that didn't see it kept going full throttle. This not only could have caused a huge crash...it sends a message to the drivers that even if they see the back yellow waving they should not let up until they see the yellow light or the flag on the front stretch...which could cause them to be unable to stop and slam into a genuine need for the caution.

It should be policy that if the back yellow is waving that the official caution should be thrown...even if it is to discipline (or even replace) the back flagman.

i don't know where you were at, but from where i was sitting that was one of the better "racing" nights i've seen at OSW in a while.

there was passing around the outside in most of the races. i even congratulated Hodge on getting the job done with style in his heat race.

But just for perspective; errors of this type occur at all tracks sooner or later.

like fer instance at Bowman Gray this spring:
            http://www.realracinusa.com/forums/s...ht=yellow+flag

the issue is not that a flag was thrown inadvertently. the issue is that the race director did not immediately follow it with a full track caution. if the starter and/or race director were never made aware that the yellow had been shown that's yet another problem. if they knew that the yellow had been displayed and refused to do anything about it ...

the only reason to go watch a race is to see passing. Jason Pick was told that "Bobby Riley was running you down anyways, get over it". pure bull shit.

catching a car is an entirely different ball of wax than passing a car. and you didn't just rob Pick of a top 3, maybe even a win,you robbed all the fans of a race for the lead. you wonder why you can't put butts in the seats? do you even need to ask? do you think you impressed all of those police and firemen? how many people do you think they are going to tell about this?

as it stands right now, OSW is telling all of it's drivers to ignore any signaling they see from the corner workers. is this a good thing? is that what you want?

is this problem unique to OSW? certainly not. even Bowman Gray didn't handle it correctly. but at least they apologized and tried to make it right in the end.

for as surprisingly good as most of the races were Friday, it really sucks that we've got this as the most memorable moment of the night.

why not leave legends and bandaleros to saturdavs

a - OSW isn't open tonight. it was either run them Friday or send them home for the weekend

Many good drivers have come from those Bandoleros and Legends and where else can a kid learn but in the Bandoleros. It is funny how the Friday night drivers hate the Saturday night drivers and the Saturday night drivers don't understand the Friday night drivers when all of you have the same interest at heart - racing. Those Bandoleros and Legends take racing as seriously as the Super Lates and Strictly Stocks. And there are many tracks in Georgia and North Caroline that have these two classes every week with their other racing classes and they don't cry about it.

Those kids are good kids and I have seen many of them cry when their car breaks or they lose a race when they think they have it won. I guess I am the den mother to most of them since they will come and see me and talk to me and ask questions about the Friday night classes because they honestly want to know and then get their candy. But they are just as serious and dedicated as the Friday night drivers.

It is just a shame that you all can't get along and deal with each other and respect each other because you all have the same thing at heart - racing. The Legends can and do put on one heck of a show and the Chargers are the Legends who are learning so they are kept separate since Legends are hard core and out for blood and they are just learning. Just like Strictly Stocks are suppose to be novice and that is their learning ground although that is no longer true since anyone can race Strictly Stock now.

Give the kids a break and show some respect. They respect you all and don't
write or say bad things about you so why not show them respect because there will be times when you all race together.

                A LEGENDS legend...

not too long ago Joey Logano was a Legend driver... now he will be driving with Gibbs Racing in the #20 of TONY STEWART.... 18 years old. i agree with Jane on this one. and if you want kids to respect you, then you have to do it (respect them)so they can see how it works! ;-) have a happy thursday.

Current nascar stars I have beat at their home tracks in legends cars.

                  Joey Lagano. Lanier, Cordele.
                  Reed Sorenson, Lanier.
                  David Ragan. Lanier.

All three the only tracks they were any good at in legends cars was the flat 1/4 mile at Charlotte and Atlanta.

Everything has it's place and everything has a reason. Bandoleros and Legends are your stars of tomorrow. They are important whether you like them or not just like quarter midgets. A number of the Bandolero kids come from quarter midget kids. And alot of your Legends come from both. I am sorry that you don't like them and you feel they are boring but they are important to racing just as much as any other class.

Saturday night at Orlando is a fun, great night but yes, it is Bandoleros and Legends and if you have never come, maybe you ought to. Just like Winter Nationals. You have Legend drivers from all over the country and big names in the Legend world. And they have those big haulers also just like NASCAR drivers. And there are helicopters coming in and out with fathers and grandfathers who are in NASCAR but come to see their children/grandchildren race. Obiviously Charlotte thinks they are important otherwise why have the Summer Shootout for Legends. I remember watching Adam Petty many years ago in that Shootout in his Legend car.

We can all agree to disagree but give them the respect they have earned.

Jane I don't think anyone is saying they are not important ,just that they shouldn't be run on our night. I think all of us agree that they are our future drivers, but when they are there on Fridays they get heats and features and sometimes we only get features. They also use up alot of our practice time. It also makes for too many class in one night and the night seems to drag out. Friday night stock cars and Saturday night little cars makes sense to me.

I know Billy what you are saying but there will be some Friday night when Rusty will run them with the regular divisions and that is Rusty's decision to make. But it would be nice if everyone would just understand and accept it without so many complaints. Honestly Billy, if Rusty decided he wanted to run one of our Friday night classes on a Saturday with them, they would not complain at all. But when it is the opposite, I do get alot of complaints and why are they here. You know me, I think everyone is important and we should all just get along and accept whatever we do on race night.

Anyway, stay dry Billy. I miss seeing everyone right now and unless the weather has changed, don't know if I will see you this weekend or not. Looks like our friendly hurricanes don't like us. But hopefully, I will see you soon.
