There is a lot of things right with the mod mini class, but it is the expensive engines that are driving so many out. I really think it is an excellent class to learn the science of handling, and most importantly, to become a lead foot. You have to learn to put your foot down in the middle of the corner (or even earlier), and your car has to handle under aggressive use like that.

Last fall I had little Pontiac for Crash A Rama. It had a quad 4 engine, and I was amazed at the power that stock motor put out. Although it was a drag to crush it, I had no use for it. Too bad we are not running more modern, readily available engines.

SCCA runs several classes of 4 cylinders with EFI, multi-cam, multi-valve engines. Why can't we start evolving that way?

If they had both mini classes i think they would pull in drivers from other tracks as well.Im sure there's a few teams out there that want to race 4cyl mini's at NSS but they have the" old school "mini stock or there not going spend what it takes to buy or build the now so called mod mini's to race there...

Your right Boneman you have to have that lead foot.Like i said before if you know me or raced against me i had a 90% stock chassis thunderbird with half the engine the big dollar teams had an still won.Problem is there are new or other teams that want to race at NSS but once they find the price tag on a full tube jig built 4cyl with that 5k to 8k engine they turn there heads.Thats just crazy for a 4cyl isnt it...The deal with the imports with computers an fuel injection is if you know nothing about electronics there goes the expense issue again...

your right, Like I said I have two "OLD SCHOOL" minis that are 95% race ready 1 that is Half way done. It would be nice if NSS or OSW had a seperate class Mini stock and the Mod Minis

useing the existing currenty race chassis and use a stock 4 cylinder motor.that way there would be more engine manufactures and probably more used supply of parts(salvage yard stock etc.).it would take some tweeking to get everything equal but not impossible

I like the idea Derf outlined: use either the existing chassis or stock junk ones, and open up the engine rules to allow more modern and inexpensive stuff. Then the most important step: pay attention and follow-up to keep the variety of cars even.

And change the name to something more up to date. Something like outlaw tuners or whatever else sounds fast and furious. It just might get the attention of a new group of people to become interested in short track racing. I saw a tube framed fiberglass bodied toyota Celica at the PRI show.

Either way you look at it something has to be done.In my opinion i say bring back the old school ministocks an get it over with.I know a few mini's myself that are just setting cause they just dont have the cars to compete.I have a rolling chassis setting desiding what to do with it.They can keep the mod mini's if they want it would just be a higher 4cyl class to move up to.Pluse they could race these every week.

                      Antiques ?

I have two mod minis sitting. Haven't moved since last race of the FMSC under Todd Hutto. Nov 2006. One is race ready/turnkey the other is a rolling chassis. I haven't been able to GIVE them away. Along with all the spare parts I've offered several people a hell of a deal (or so I thought). It just got too hard to keep up. Even with the weight break for the old stock firewall/floorpan cars. And too expensive to start over from scratch.
I didn't officially retire but the future is dim. Sure doesn'took like there are many left out there racing them.

old school mini class could be good but it will get way out of hand...if you have a guy that spends that type of money i a regular mini class and finishes 3rd or 4th every week... why would he not spend half that and run in the old school mini class and have a greater chance of winning..i think it could get out of control!!!!

Last time i raced mini stocks was in 05 at Volusia.I raced 9 years at NSS before that and 1 year at Volusia when it was asphalt.I have a rolling chassis setting just to see what happens to the class. From what i understand there having the same problem on dirt with mini stocks trying to run with outlaw fours..
