  • East Bay Ripoff

First off I go to about 20 races a year and all asphalt tracks all over the south east. I have never complained about the ticket prices because I usually feel like I got my money's worth. Well I went to East Bay for the first time last night, I was hoping to catch a good show with the 410 sprints but to my displeasure there was only about 20 sprint cars there. That was disapointing along with the only other series racing being the FL mini sprints. How is that worth $30 I payed to get in General Admission? I feel ripped big time, there was so much down time I won't come back.

I was wondering about the prices and last nights show myself. I must say that I paid $40 a ticket for last Friday's show and left feeling I got my moneys worth. I'm sure I would have felt the same as you if I had gone last night.

      This might be why....

I'm not sure but I thought I overheard that the Outlaws have a 48 hour collar on racers who run one of their events...but they had lifted it for the races this February. But at the last minute, they re-enforced the rule, thus screwing any point chasing(outlaw) teams who may have wanted to be there at Easy Bay but had competed at VSP on Saturday.

I have heard stories like this in the past so it seemed plausible. One indicator of it's truth should be the car count tonight at the Bay.

All I know for sure is that the Late Models and Billy Moyer in particular, put on a hell of a show Sat. nite. That was a pure driving clinic he put on. Even got to see Bloomquist get rolled onto his roof.....that was classic and then we found out even more so as this was(reportedly) the first time he's ever been on his roof in a racecar.

Glad I got to see him get indoctrinated.

        That is correct.

Terry McCarl wanted to go over and run East Bay, but couldn't because of the WoO rule.

That's why you only saw a couple of PA Posse guys like Lance DeWease and Bad Chad Layton mixed in there.

see folks, car counts DO matter...to fans.

I feel for ya bud, that was an unsanctioned non-points race...also the payouts were terrible compared to the 360's, not much incentive for guys to show up.

Move the 410 dates back to Thursday, Friday & Saturday (night before 500). Get a sanction or have a decent payout and the cars & fans will show. Volusia was packed for the WoO races.

The rule that OJ talked about was put in place when the NST & WoO were battling for cars a couple years ago. The payout probably didn't make it worth their wild to show up. I would hate it if they actually enforced the rule!

That rule also applies to point running WOO late model regulars too.

What exactly is the 48 hour collar rule and what is the rationale of the 48 hours? I hate it when a sanctioning body restricts their racers from running other series.

They feel that its the only way to protect their series. But in the end it hurts the tracks, the drivers, the series and most of all and the ones that count the most THE FANS!

It's funny...the ORIGINAL outlaw racers had so much disdain for those sanctioning body rules...

Maybe it was fitting that night 2 was cancelled.

                      Dumb Rule

Your right, it is a dumb rule.
I have a friend who is in a "winners" program. He went to a race and it got rained out. On his way home, he stopped at a track to race to try and make some extra money. After paying to get in [plus crew] and a few phone calls,he got a phone call back saying that if he raced, he would lose his status in the program. He promptly loaded up and came home!
My point is, I can understand that rule if they were racing that night. They are trying to keep there car count up! But they weren't, they got rained out and the next race was the following weekend. Too me, that just is not right!

REAL OLD STYLE back before the internet and istant problems with Cell phones we had the SAME Problem. if you ran for USAC points and raced at a NON USAC event ou could lose your points. Well we jsut changed names and ran. Hell I had so many AKA back then I ha d to look at my DL to see who I was.
I think WOO is worried about their stars getting in a wreck and be out for a few shows. They figure if somebody was getting some sheet time they wanted to cause it.
