Dry counties

Who comes up with this shit? Prohibition ended in 1933 and this particular county turned dry just a few years ago. Just south of Lexington Kentucky I stopped in Mt Vernon for the night. I checked into my hotel and went across the street to a steak house for a steak and a beer or three. Disappointment was an understatement when I found out I was in a dry county. After being on the road for 34 hours I wasn't about to drive anywhere else. Of all the places to stop along I-75 I just happened to stop in a dry county.

Years ago I went to the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchberg Tennessee and it was in a dry county. It may have changed since then.

Moral of the story, always keep a bottle of liquor of your choice with your spare tire.

Back in 1987, I was racing at Road Atlanta, and we wanted to stop and get some beer to take back to the motel, and found out it was in a dry county as well. Not sure if it still is, but I can tell you this, we drove to the next county to get some alchohol!

You gotta be careful doing that. About 15 years ago a friend was staying with his wife on a romantic weekend retreat at a bed & breakfast in the western NC mountains, when they discovered that the county they were in was dry. So he got into the car and drove to the next county, purchased a bottle of wine or two, then drove back. He was pulled over by a county cop (in the dry county) and cited for transporting alcohol across county lines and spent the weekend in jail. This happened on Friday night and he got out of jail on Monday morning when a local judge finally let him off with a several hundred dollar fine and time served.

We have a Cabin in Madison County in Western ,N.C. dry county,so is Haywood County.

I did a couple of projects up in NC, Yadkin County to be exact right next to Winston-Salem... yadkin County was dry, BUT!!! At every point that a road exited the county, there was a liquor store and/or a Bar or both. And no you didn't have to worry about transporting it over county lines... As the liquor store that I used to frequent was also frequented by the Sheriff and the Judge....

I felt fortunate that I wasn't but 10-15 minutes away from the county line so the "trip" to get alcohol wasn't so prohibitive....

Nothing wrong with that stuff in a jar, need some more if you come across any.

I lived in a dry county just outside of Tyler Tx for a while. Sucked having to drive 20 minutes for a beer. Was pulled over a couple times making that trip but nothing was ever said about the several cases of beer I had for personal consumption. I was told it was perfectly legal to transport it across county lines as long as it wasn't for resale.
Nobody never said anything about donations now.

Back in the day I had to get out of hillsborough county on sat night after st. pete on the way back to hmstd to get a beer as hillsborough was dry after midnight until noon on sunday. There was a food spot at the county line on 60. No I75 was not there then.
