Gas spiked in 2000 and again in 2004...it really doesn't matter (who's) in there.

          Gas spiked in 2000

after Bill Clinton sent Bill Richardson to Saudi Arabia in 1999 to ask them to drop crude production because prices were "too low".

that's a fact that can't be repeated often enough.

What can we say. Were stuck. We need oil and a few have it. I guess if i dont like prices i can start drilling for oil. Until then I will pay $150.00 per fill up or more. Oh well. At least one thing is sure. the high oil prices have made my car crushing business very nice lately.

I don't remember much of a spike in the last half of 2000. It jumped to around $1.25 early and stayed there most of the year.

I don't think it matters so much who is in there as who is running for office.

If you don't think the OPEC group want a democrat in office, well you may be a little naive. I've noticed a spike in gas prices every election year that a republican is running for reelection, or a republican was favored to win.

They have supported the democrat in the last 6 elections that I can remember clearly at my feeble age of 50. My guess as to why? Because they don't respect/fear a US with a weak foreign policy president.

Benny, I appreciate you posting the retail gasoline prices. It doesn't really matter who is in office. Looks like gas went up about 48% during Clinton's administration and well over 100% in Bush's. Now during the Nixon republican years I can remember it being less than $.40 a gallon. But then the Arabs got together and placed an oil embargo that caused major price increases, lines at the pump, rationing, etc. Ahhh, the good old days.

Well, I guess that makes the presidential choice easy. No Bush, no Democrats, what's that leave us? Nader? Hehe. Just kidding. But he might require all those camels have seatbelts installed.
