The night started off with 7 cars in the pits. A shock was found in the pits when the teams arrived to find the # 52 car sitting in the pits. The car was borrowed for the race by Jay Stutz, due to mechanical issues with the familiar # 6.
The heat race lined up with Geoff Styner in the #5 on the pole and Ted Durfee in the #26 on the outside. Durfee would get the jump going into turn one and hold on for the win.
The feature started with the same two on on the front row. Durfee would take the early lead with Styner right on his bumper. Mike Belusar would make the pass for second on lap 4 and give chase for Durfee. Lap 6, the caution flew for the spinning cars of Jack Duffy #1 and Ray Smith # 17. Both would push off and rejoin the field. Duffy would come from the fifth spot to pull up to the high side of Styner going into turn one on the restart. Coming out of turn two, Duffy would take over the third spot. Lap 10, the #17 of Smith would spin again and take the car to the pits. With Durfee leading, Belusar and Duffy rounding out the top three, Styner would later take his #5 to the pits with fuel problems. Lap 21........the night got scary!!! Belusar and Durfee would get together going into turn three, with Durfee spinning around and Belusar going for a wild flip into the turn three wall. Belusar would get out of the car on his own and was not injured in this wild ride. This would set-up a 4 lap shoot-out with Duffy taking the pole and #7 Jamie Barnum in second. Durfee was able to restart and lined up third. As the green came out, it was Duffy to the lead and Barnum right there. As the took the white flag, Barnum would go low going into turn one. Duffy stayed along side in the middle lane. This opened the door for Durfee on the high side. As they came out of turn two.....Durfee would make the pass on the high side and hold on for the win!
That's THREE in row for Durfee.
