Barberville, FL (May 29, 2009) Volusia Speedway Park has cancelled this weekend's racing event.
General Manager Tonya Moschell released the following statement this morning. "We have pulled the plug…..after more than 20 inches of rain this week and more rain this morning, we have made the decision to cancel tomorrow's racing program".
No race track likes to pull the plug on racing but with the forecast of more rain tomorrow and the rain already received this week, there is just no way to race tomorrow night.
No track wants their drivers or fans to waste money these days trying to get to a race only to be told to go home. Moschell felt it was better to go ahead and call the races today and let the drivers and fans know well ahead of time to so they can make new plans for Memorial weekend.
Racing will return next Saturday night, May 30th, with STIMULUS NIGHT. A family of 4 will be admittted FREE with unemployment check stub and ID. On the program will be the Late Models, Sportsman, Modifieds, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Challengers.
All the Volusia Speedway Park staff and officials would like to extend to the drivers, crews, and fans a very happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. Stay safe, dry if possible and see you next weekend.
