  • Billy Myers passes

Billy Myers, 79, of Bronson passed away this afternoon following an extended illness.
A native of the Baltimore, Maryland area, Myers moved to South Florida in the late 50s where he was a standout in the old coupe and sedan Sportsman cars. He suffered a severly broken leg at Hialeah Speedway in 1960 but resumed his driving career in the mid 60s when he moved into the late models, wheeling a succession of fast Fords for various owners at tracks from Hialeah to Golden Gate.
In the ealry 70s Billy moved to Bronson where he continued to tinker with race cars and later became a track official.
During the 1974 season he served as the crew chief for driver Randy Tissot and the Ft Lauderdale based Tilitco Enterprises Winston Cup team.
    RIP Grouch.

Jim's correct. That photo is Billy in the second Ford LM he built for owner Thurl Ulrey out of Miami. Billy liked the SB Fords and yes, he turned the hell out of them too. Later Billy and Ulrey split and Billy had a Fairlane but it never ran like the '58 did.
