I was thinking that in what I do with the sport who are some people that played a huge role in what I do now or kept me working when I wanted to give up. SO in the post below either expand on what you think of my mentors or tell me who in the racing media or photography/video world has left a memory on you over the years and why. These can be past or present.
PS I plan to have more post like this soon.
Just a few for me:
1. Jack Smith, not sure I need to say a lot about this one, if not for Jack I would not be on this board for one, and I would not be hosting a weekly radio show with thoughts a pod cast to come soon. Also one time many years ago when I thought all of my time was not worth it he called me late one night like he was famous for and said do not give up people like what you do and the follow you even if you do not know it they watch your shows you make a difference. That conversation has stuck with me for a long time. For a long time I have tied to keep short track racing important nd I do that because I know Jack is looking down on me in his Miami Dolphins Jack and that ponytail and is smiling at what we are doing for the sport he loved. I am so honored to get to continue his Karnac legacy and I hope I can do it for a long time and make him proud.
2. Bob Culbertson, he and I have done a lot together traveled many miles and most of all we have become great friends. I can call on him at any time for advice or if i need help and even though he can not make the tracks anymore he will do what ever I say I need help with. From helping him run a second camera to doing interviews for him when I was scared to death to be on a mic he pushed me out of my comfort zone.
3. Bobby 5X5 Day, a man I never met but have seen his work in pictures back in the day when they were on film and you could not afford to get a bad shot, just know what he went through drives me to take better photos. Also on a humor note I have been asked at many racing reunions if I was his son so for that it has to mean something, and at the time I was asked I really did not know who he was but it challenged me to find out more about him.
Dave Westerman, what can I say a great man who loved the racing history, I hope to be able to preserve it one day as much as he did.
Who else has made an impact in your racing memories?????
