THIRD HARVEST MEAT MARKETS FAMILY SAVINGS NIGHT SET FOR SATURDAY AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY - V-8 BOMBERS SET FOR 50 LAPS
After three rain-outs in the last four weekends, Auburndale Speedway will try to get back "on track" this Saturday with the third in a series of Harvest Meat Markets Family Savings Nights. Once again, thanks to Ed and Anita Kirkland and all the fine folks at Harvest Meat Markets, it will be just $10 for adult grandstand admission for everyone aged 13 and up. Harvest Meat Markets serves local area race fans from five locations in Auburndale, Lakeland, Kathleen, Lake Alfred and Highland City. As a part of the evening, concession stand specials will once again be available including $1 hot dogs (cooked with loving care by Speedway Marketing Manager Rick Bristol), popcorn and small fountain drinks or tea.
The big event of the evening will be the "Let The Rough Side Drag" V-8 Bomber 50 along with heats and features for the Modified Mini Stocks, Q Mini-stocks, Scramblers and Mini Cup cars.
In seven races, only two V-8 Bomber machines have visited victory lane: that of point leader James Wright III (three wins) and the potent #25 Camaro of Roy "Bubba" Healey that has scored four victories, three with Bubba himself behind the wheel and once with George Gorham, Jr. driving. Wright will definitely be shooting for his fourth win of the year while it remains to be seen if Healey or his buddy Gorham will drive the #25.
Danny Burchfield, although winless on the season, has strung together a number of top three finishes and is second in points, 15 markers behind Wright. The third place driver in points, Brandon "Bones" Duchscherer, won't be in action but his car will, with guest driver Jason "Scrappy" Lester behind the wheel. Other drivers expected to compete include Ronnie Abney, Eddie Hartin, David Purvis, Jammie "Wild Child" Dunnahoe, Jr., Jody Gill and quite a few more.
The Narramore Family continues to dominate the Q Mini Stock class with Chris Sr. (six wins) leading the points over his son Chris, Jr. (four wins) by just seven points. After three Modified Mini Stock races, Fred Harrison has a 17 point edge on Clint Holmes. Harrison won the most recent Mod Mini feature on April 21 joining Mike Lawhorn and Keith Roggen as winners so far this season.
Douglas Herrin Jr., who has won four of the seven Mini Cup races this year (all in a row), leads the Mini Cup point standings by 15 over Clay Samuels. Meanwhile Danny Burchfield has a big 44 point lead over Travis Todd in Scrambler division points.
Pit gates open at 3:30 pm with practice slated from 4:15-5:45 pm. Grandstand gates open at 5 pm and qualifying for the V-8 Bombers is slated for 6:15 pm. Racing begins at 7 pm with 8-lap heat races for the Mini Cups, Q Mini Stocks, Scamblers and Modified Mini Stocks. Intermission will feature an autograph/photo op session on the front straight featuring cars and drivers from all divisions that are racing, weather permitting. Feature racing starts out with a 20-lap contest for the Mini Cups followed by 25 laps for the Q Mini Stocks. The Scramblers are next for 20 laps followed by a 25-lapper for the Modified Mini Stocks. The evening concludes with the 50-lap "Let the Rough Side Drag" special for the V-8 Bombers.
Once again, thanks to Harvest Meat Markets, adult/senior admission for this fun evening of racing is just $10 with children ages 5-12 only $5 and all kids 4 and under getting in free. The family 4-pack not available for this event but will return on June 9th. Pit passes are $30 per person and all parking is free.
