  • Southern Pro-Am Truck Series Race Recap - Crisp Motorsports Park - 3/25/17

LATE MODEL ACE TOPS SOUTHERN PRO-AM TRUCKS IN GEORGIA

The Southern Pro-Am Truck Series was in action for their second race of the year and they traveled all the way to Cordele, GA to do it as the Series invaded Crisp Motorsports Park Saturday evening.

Although only five teams made the trek "north of the border," the racing was close and fans along with the local track officials were impressed with the show.

Sarasota's Dean Butrum topped the eight-lap heat race and started the 30-lap feature from the pole only to be spun by Rodney Haddock of Hilliard during the opening lap. Haddock went to the rear for the restart while Butrum returned to the front spot as this would be the only slowdown of the race.

Butrum took off on the restart followed by Jacksonville Late Model veteran Chuck Hiers (driving the twin truck to Haddock's) and Paul Grynewicz III of Crystal Beach. Grynewicz was in top form as he passed Hiers for second then tracked down Butrum to take over the lead. Meanwhile, as Butrum's truck began to fade, Haddock charged from the back to pass his teammate Hiers for second but was well behind Grynewicz. The trio raced that way for several laps before Hiers caught fire and took over second with just a handful of laps left.

Grynewicz appeared headed to his first big Truck win but it was not to be as his machine slipped out of gear going into turn three with three laps to go. Hiers took advantage and sped to the front to claim the victory in his first-ever start with the Southern Pro-Am Series. Grynewicz doggedly held on for second ahead of Haddock, Butrum and Madison's Taylor Hosford.
