This is 1960 NASCAR Grand National (Cup) champion Rex White winning his first race at McCormick Field near Asheville, NC in 1956... This was a non-sanctioned event so there aren't any actual records of this victory, just this great photo... White's first recorded NASCAR win was a NASCAR Short Track Division win on May 3, 1957 at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, VA... White actually ran the number "X" on his cars that were owned by Max Welborn in NASCAR GN races in 1956 and he did not actually run his famous #4 until 1959 when he became listed as owner of his cars (although Louis Clements was a co-owner)... James Hylton was the lead mechanic on Rex's car when he won the championship in 1960...
