Haddock takes Invitational Showdown
Desoto Speedway kicked off its June Doubleheader with a series of feature
races and a Pro Truck Invitational Showdown on Friday night.
In the 25-lap Showdown, Blake Haddock started on the pole and was in firm
control of the race until a late caution stacked the field up with five
laps to go. Haddock started on the outside of the front row on the final
restart and cleared Nick Hernandez for the lead immediately after the green
flag.
As Haddock drove on to the victory, Hernandez and Tommy Kelly staged a
fierce battle for second place. Kelly eventually took the runner spot with
Hernandez and Scott McKay taking the final two transfer spots for Saturday
night's Invitational. Fifth place finisher Duane Best was granted the
Promoter's Choice and will be the final starter in Saturday night's 75-lap
event.
Josh Todd held off Aaron Holmes to win the 25-lap Bomber feature; Shane
Leonard took advantage of Darrin Ellis' mechanical issues and went on to
win the 25-lap LKQ Pick-Your-Part Pure Stock feature; Chris Spring won the
25-lap Pep Boys Speed Shop Modified Mini feature; Jeff Firestine took his
third victory of the season in the Take Aim Gun Range Street Stocks.
Saturday night's card features a 100-lap feature for the Sunoco Super
Challenge Series Late Models, 75 laps Q Auto & Injury Attorney's pro trucks, Sportsman and the Dan Curl
Memorial for the Outlaw Modifieds.
